When to go
Acapulco lives on the Mexican calendar: Holy Week, Christmas-New Year and long weekends fill the Costera and double the prices; ordinary weekends bring Mexico City down by bus. Midweek, the city is yours and the rates show it.

Low prices, retro charm, and some paint pending. The honest decision: bay and walkable life in the Dorada, modern resort in Diamante, stopped time at Caleta.
By profile: the classic weekend down from Mexico City, the Dorada on the Costera; modern resort with kids, Diamante; nostalgia and calm water, Caleta; sunsets and a hammock, Pie de la Cuesta, which works as its own mini-destination 40 minutes out. A sober note for foreign visitors: Acapulco's crowd is overwhelmingly domestic and its rhythms are Mexican — Spanish helps more here than in Cancún, and the city is at its best enjoyed the local way: beach mornings, long seafood lunches, terrace sunsets.
