I loved my stay here. Brand new hotel as a centerpiece of Districto Uno. Great views as all rooms are above the lobby on the 21st floor. Staff seems new and well trained. Excellent hospitality from the bar to the restaurant to front desk. Would definitely come back.
Expect about a 10% up-charge than what you see when booking via the Marriott website. Other international hotels that I've visited have always been the same total as when you book (Yes, I use a credit card with no international fees. In fact, I used a Marriott card to book a Marriott hotel) After about a dozen emails and a bank dispute, I still can't get a clear answer to what my total should be or why it's more than expected. Planning your trip to Chihuahua
When to go
October and November are the rounded months: days of 20-25°C, cold dry nights, clean skies and a sierra still green from the rains. It is also when El Chepe runs full, so the night before the train books out earlier than you would expect. April and early May work nearly as well.
May and June bring the dry heat in earnest — 35°C and up, with no kind shade at midday. From July to September afternoon downpours cool things off and green the canyons; they fall hard and briefly, and rarely write off a whole day. Those weeks also bring softer rates in town.
Winter is the honest argument both for and against: December to February the small hours drop below freezing, snow falls now and then, and Creel wakes up white — lovely postcard, cold logistics. Hotels ease their prices and travellers thin out. Check the room has real heating and pack a proper coat.
Two patterns matter more than the season: midweek this is a business city and rates climb Monday to Thursday, with the weekend as relief; and March into April brings dusty winds that leave the sky hazy for days on end. Holy Week and summer peak because of the train, not the city.
Getting there and around
Roberto Fierro airport sits east of town, 20-30 minutes from the Centro depending on traffic, with registered taxis in the order of MX$250-400 and apps a little cheaper. There are daily flights from Mexico City, Monterrey and Guadalajara, plus links across the border. Convenient public transport from the terminal is essentially non-existent, so budget for the taxi.
Overland, Ciudad Juárez is about four hours by motorway, Cuauhtémoc an hour and a half, Parral three and a half, Creel four to five. The bus terminal stands on Boulevard Juan Pablo II near the airport, 20-25 minutes from the Centro. The standing northern rule still applies: on the highway, travel in daylight.
With El Chepe the train sets the schedule: it leaves before dawn and the station is not on the main square but a short taxi ride away. Confirm station and departure time when you buy the ticket, arrange the taxi the night before, and ask whether the hotel does early coffee. Nobody improvises well at five in the morning.
The Centro walks end to end: cathedral, Plaza de Armas, Casa Chihuahua, Quinta Gameros and Quinta Luz all fall within sensible distances, with a slope here and there and plenty of sun. The rest of the city is wide and built for cars; a city bus runs about MX$10-12 and an in-town app ride MX$50-100.
Where to stay, zone by zone
The Centro gathers everything you see on foot plus a handful of hotels with history — mid-century buildings, high ceilings, lobbies with memory — at contained prices. Our 2026 scans logged 25 hotels with a real rate, from US$39 a night and a typical figure of around US$92; the Centro covers most of that spread.
The honest caveat: this is an office district, and after nine on a weeknight it goes quiet, with only a few lively blocks. Not unsafe at that hour, but not a tourist centre either. If you arrive late, eat near the hotel and save the museums and the walking for the morning.
Avenida Universidad, the San Felipe area and Periférico de la Juventud hold the executive chains: predictable rooms, breakfast included, parking, malls within reach. Without a car they make little sense, since everything is an app ride away; with a car, or on a work trip, they are the comfortable, surprise-free choice.
By profile: first visit or the night before the train, Centro; business, Universidad or the industrial corridor; family with a car, the northern hotels with parking and a pool, which you will thank in June. The bus-station area only if you land late and leave early — you sleep there, you don't stroll.
Eating and going out
You eat beef here and you eat it well: asada, arrachera, ranch discada, machaca with eggs for breakfast. The northern burrito — thin flour tortilla, shredded beef or chile con queso — runs about MX$40-70 at 2025 prices and settles a whole meal. Carne seca sells by the bag and travels beautifully on the train.
The countryside supplies the rest: Mennonite cheese from around Cuauhtémoc, mountain apples in autumn, and sotol, the regional spirit taken seriously here. A set lunch downtown runs MX$120-180; a full steak dinner MX$300-500 per person in 2025 money.
Nights split between Avenida Juárez, a few Centro blocks and the bars up north, with craft beer and old-school cantinas. Midweek the city dines early and closes early; Thursday to Saturday the mood changes. There is no tourist scene — there are locals enjoying themselves, which is usually better anyway.
On safety, what we'd tell a friend: the Centro and the commercial corridors are fine to walk by day and early evening, and the city is a long way from its reputation of fifteen years ago. Even so, move by taxi or app at night, and don't take the highway after dark.
Booking well

Thin supply means a conference, a fair or a Mexican long weekend can squeeze availability overnight, and that the gap between Tuesday and Saturday shows in the rate. A week's notice usually does; for Holy Week and summer, move earlier.
The order never changes: Chepe ticket first, then the hotel for the night before, then everything else. When you book, check for real heating in winter, air conditioning in summer, parking if you're driving, and on Universidad or the Periférico ask for an interior room — heavy traffic noise doesn't negotiate.
Two closing notes. If Copper Canyon is the point, don't attempt it as a round trip from here: sleep at least one night in Creel or Divisadero and leave Chihuahua for arrival and return; many hotels will hold your big suitcase while you're in the sierra.
