Rooms with bathrooms are very spacious, there's a green communal garden, breakfast(not included in the price) is good and staff is very friendly. Cholula is at driving distance and there are a few good restaurants nearby.
A well hidden gem in a beautiful suburb of Cholula. The yard of the hotel was adorable and very well kept. The room was spacious and had everything you needed except air conditioning. There is a bit of a walk downtown to the center but you get the peace and quiet instead.
Great little boutique hotel in Cholula. Temazcal pre-hispanic wood fired sauna on site, quite a rare find.
Planning your trip to Cholula
When to go
November to February gives the clearest skies: mild days of 22-25°C and Popocatépetl visible from the churchyard on top of the mound. The catch is the nights. At over 2,100 metres the thermometer drops to 5°C, and several of the smaller hotels have no heating at all — ask about blankets, hot water and windows that actually shut.
March to May is dry and warmer, up to 28°C at midday, with dust in the air and tired gardens. The spring equinox packs the archaeological zone with tour groups and the pyramid loses its usual calm; if you are here for the churches rather than the crowd, pick another week.
June to September means rain almost every afternoon: clear mornings, hard showers between four and seven, and a green valley all around. Midweek in the wet season is the quietest and cheapest window — provided you dodge the big dates.
And the big dates count here: the huehues carnival in February or March, the Cholula fair and the descent of the Virgen de los Remedios in early September, Day of the Dead and the year-end holidays. With only a handful of hotels in town, those nights sell out weeks ahead.
Getting there and around
Puebla's airport (Hermanos Serdán, out at Huejotzingo) is a 25-35 minute drive; an authorised taxi runs somewhere around MX$400-600. From Mexico City airport, direct coaches to Puebla leave roughly every half hour and are the sensible option: two and a half hours, then another 25 minutes. Be aware that ash from Popocatépetl occasionally shuts regional airports for a few hours.
From Puebla, the Recta a Cholula links the two in 20 minutes without traffic. Shared vans and colectivos leave the city centre constantly and cost on the order of MX$15; a taxi or ride-hailing car is roughly MX$150-250, more late on weekend nights.
Inside Cholula you walk. Five minutes from San Pedro's square to the pyramid, about 25 on foot to San Andrés's square. For the baroque churches at Tonantzintla and Acatepec, take a colectivo from San Pedro or a taxi at around MX$100-150 each way. Public transport thins out after 10pm; the apps keep running.
Where to stay, zone by zone
Central San Pedro is the obvious first choice: the square, the arcade, the San Gabriel convent and the pyramid around the corner. This is where old houses have become eight- or ten-room hotels with a courtyard and breakfast included. The downside is noise — a busy plaza, brass bands and bars from Thursday to Saturday. Ask for an inward-facing room.
The barrios ringing the pyramid, and Avenida Morelos, hold family-run guesthouses and hostels: quieter, cheaper, ten to fifteen minutes' walk from the square. Cobbles, almost no nightlife, and the silhouette of the hilltop church from the roof terrace. Good if you plan early starts.
San Andrés Cholula is the university side: UDLAP, cafés, rented flats and a bar strip that fills up on Thursday nights. Sleeping a few streets away is fine; sleeping above it is not. It is also close to Angelópolis and the motorway access, which helps if you are driving.
Angelópolis and the Atlixcáyotl corridor, on the boundary with Puebla, are towers, malls and chain hotels: no charm whatsoever, but they work for a work trip. One honest figure: our 2026 scans logged only 3 hotels with a real price in Cholula, from US$88 with a typical rate of about US$126, so it is always worth pricing central Puebla against them.
Eating and going out
The food here is Puebla food, and it lives in the fondas and the market in central San Pedro: chalupas, molotes, tacos árabes, mole, whatever soup the kitchen made that morning. A full set lunch still costs on the order of MX$100-150; on the terraces facing the arcade you pay about double for the same cooking and a better view.
August and September bring chiles en nogada, a seasonal dish with a serious price — expect MX$300 or more per piece in a restaurant. The rest of the year, ask about pulque from the villages around; it is served fresh, it does not travel, and it is drunk where it is made.
Going out means one of two things: San Pedro's square, where cantinas and terraces mix locals and visitors, or the student circuit in San Andrés, loud and cheap and at its peak Thursday to Saturday. Outside those two pockets, kitchens close early, around nine or ten.
Booking well
With so few hotels in town, the logic inverts: you are not hunting a bargain, you are securing a bed. Book weeks ahead for carnival, the September fair, Day of the Dead, the equinox and long weekends. Midweek and in the rainy months you have room to compare and rates soften.
Always price Puebla alongside it: 20 minutes away, hundreds of hotels, lower averages. Cholula wins if your plan is the pyramid, the village churches and a slow pace. Puebla wins on museums, markets and restaurant range. Two nights in each is a formula that works for most travellers.
Before confirming, ask three things: heating or extra blankets, since nights are cold year-round; whether parking is genuinely available, because the central streets are narrow and the plaza closes for events; and exactly where the room sits in relation to the square or the bar strip. Small hotels tend to answer messages quickly.
