Coatzacoalcos is a working port with a beach attached, and it helps to arrive knowing that. Refinery work, port business and the Interoceanic Corridor projects fill the hotels from Monday to Thursday; at weekends families drive in from Minatitlán and Villahermosa for the seafront. Rooms cluster in three places: the Centro around Parque Independencia, the beachfront malecón, and the northern boulevards near the highway. Our 2026 scans found 7 hotels with a real price: from US$32 a night, with a typical rate of about US$52. Heat and humidity are constant, and from October to March northerly blows can leave the sea grey and choppy for days.

Where should I stay in Coatzacoalcos?
Without a car, the Centro: you walk to the seafront, the market and the seafood kitchens, and the cheapest rooms are here. If you came for the beach or are travelling with kids, take the malecón beachfront, where the pools and sea views are. If you are here on business for the refinery or the port, the functional hotels on the northern boulevards give you parking and quick highway access.
When are rooms cheapest?
Demand here is industrial rather than touristic: hotels fill Monday to Thursday with work travel and ease off at weekends, except in summer. The expensive dates are Easter, July and August, and the year-end holidays. September and October, between heavy rain and the first nortes, usually bring the best rates. How do I get there and get around?
Minatitlán airport (MTT) is roughly 40 km away, with few flights and mostly to Mexico City; Villahermosa, two and a half hours by road, offers far more choice. By bus, the ADO terminal links Veracruz, Villahermosa, the Isthmus towns and the capital. In town, expect taxis at roughly MX$60-100 per city run, cheap local buses, and ride apps with patchy coverage.
Is the city beach worth it?
It is an urban beach: wide, dark-sanded, with surf and water clouded by river sediment and port traffic. Good for a sunset walk along the malecón, an evening kickabout and a seafood lunch with a view, not for turquoise postcards. If you swim, do it where other people are and keep an eye on the currents.
