The rooms is very nice for the price (600 pesos) parking is right out side my room, off the street in a lot. Not locked but the reception is 24 hour and has many cameras on a very large screen at the desk. Considering I'm living off my bike security is my number one concern and this puts me at ease. Receptionist offered to help me order food, dispites her lack of English and my lack of good Spanish. As for the location, unsure, arrived at night, but not far fr the highway, neighbourhood seemed nice…
I love this hotel. Best hotel I've stayed for a really cheap price. The service speaks volumes! You can tell they are in it for the people and not the money. Definitely will be back!!

When to go
November to March is the window: daytime highs of 25-28°C, cool nights, no rain and midday sun you can actually walk in. It is also peak season for the Chepe and Copper Canyon traffic, so rooms fill earlier than you would expect in a working city. December adds families visiting relatives to the mix.
April to June heats up quickly: 35°C and rising, dry, with the city carrying on as usual because heat is routine here. It works if you front-load the day, give the afternoon to air conditioning, and save the Jardín Botánico Benjamín Francis Johnston for the first hours of the morning.
July to September is the hard stretch: close to 40°C with humidity off the bay, thunderstorms and the Pacific hurricane season, which rarely lands squarely here but can write off a day or two. It is also when rates sit lowest, and that is the trade you are making.
A packing note if the canyon is your real destination: in winter Creel and Divisadero wake up below freezing and can see snow while Los Mochis is in shirtsleeves. That is more than two thousand metres of altitude difference, so carry a proper jacket you would otherwise leave at home.
Getting there and around
Federal del Valle del Fuerte International Airport (LMM) lies about 15 km south of the centre, with flights from Mexico City, Guadalajara, Tijuana and other northern cities. An authorised taxi into town costs on the order of MX$300-400 depending on the current tariff; there is no comfortable public option if you land late with luggage.
By road, Los Mochis sits on Highway 15: about three hours from Culiacán, a little less from Ciudad Obregón, six or seven from Mazatlán. Each bus company runs its own terminal, scattered between the centre and the boulevards, so check which one your ticket uses before you settle on a hotel.
The Copper Canyon train departs from the station on the eastern edge of town early in the morning. The La Paz ferry sails from Topolobampo, some 25 km away, and you want to be at the dock well ahead of time. Schedules and operating days change with the season, so confirm them before paying for nights.
The city is flat and laid out on a grid, but the boulevards are long and shadeless: walking from the centre to the northern hotels is no plan in the heat. Local taxis charge roughly MX$60-120, apps operate, and city buses are cheap. Avoid driving the intercity highways after dark.
Where to stay, zone by zone
The Centro, around the Plazuela 27 de Septiembre and the cathedral, is the practical choice without a car: simple and mid-range hotels, taquerías open late-ish, terminals nearby, and the bottom end of our scans, from US$48. The trade-offs are boulevard noise in front-facing rooms and streets that empty out after ten.
Along Boulevard Antonio Rosales and out towards Macario Gaxiola you find the business-oriented hotels: parking, breakfast included, sometimes a pool, generally newer rooms. This is where the typical rate of about US$82 that we recorded lives. It makes sense if you drive, though you will need the car or a taxi for dinner.
Near the train station and on the road to the airport there is no hotel district worth hunting for. You are better off sleeping in the centre or on the boulevard and booking the taxi the night before; at five in the morning the city is quiet and the transfer is short either way.
In Topolobampo and out at El Maviri, lodging is minimal — these are day trips for seafood and boat outings, not places to base yourself. And if the Chepe is your only reason to be here, consider sleeping in El Fuerte, 80 km away: a pleasanter colonial town, with a later boarding time.
Eating and going out
Seafood is the point here, and it is done well: shrimp aguachile, callo de hacha, smoked marlin, battered shrimp tacos. El Maviri, the sandbar beside Topolobampo, is the weekend classic, with palapas right on the sand and long lunches. In the city itself, the choice splits between the centre and the boulevards.
Inland, beef takes over: charcoal-grilled asada, pork chilorio, machaca at breakfast. A serious breakfast is an institution in the Valle del Fuerte and many kitchens open by seven, which helps if your train or ferry goes mid-morning. At five in the morning, though, you are at the mercy of whatever the hotel can arrange.
Nightlife is low-key and local: bars along the boulevards, cinemas in the malls, the plaza filling up as the sun drops. This is not a late city, and kitchens close earlier than you expect on weeknights. Move by radio taxi or app after dark and don't walk around with anything flashy.
