The nightly activities schedule was consistently incorrect. When they post the events on their app, they do not follow their own schedule, so we missed several of the activities believing we made diner reservation for the right time. For example being told trivia night starts at 8:30pm (on their app) being there at 8:15pm to find the game had already begun and then be told we are too late to join. Osvaldo from the entertainment team was brilliant! Great fun and plenty of energy all day with different activities for all ages. Definitely made our holiday extra special! Jesus was excellent at looking after us round the pool all day, ensuring we always had a drink with us and very friendly too! Initially I only started writing this review because I was asked to by Brian with the vibe team who was an awesome guy! However sadly I CANNOT give this resort a 5 star review. I will honest I thought that a lot of the bad reviews were petty and over the top but I have a different perspective now. The exterior of the property is very well kept. Planning your trip to Puerto Morelos
When to go
The dry season runs December to March: 28-30°C, low humidity and a flat sea most mornings. It is also the priciest stretch, peaking over Christmas, New Year and Holy Week. The local wrinkle is the nortes: two or three windy, choppy days a month between December and February, when reef boats stay tied up and the shoreline turns cloudy and brown.
From May to October comes the sargassum, and it deserves plain language: some weeks the sand is clean, others the weed piles up, smells and clouds the water. The town clears the central beach and each resort clears its own, but nobody manages the open sea. If snorkelling is your reason for coming, March, April and November are the safer bets.
September and October concentrate the rain, the sticky heat and the hurricane risk — and the year's lowest rates, plus a village that goes back to being a village. Storms are heavy and short, almost always in the afternoon. Travelling then, book something cancellable and read the hotel's storm policy: on this coast that clause gets used.
The rounded months are November, March and April: bearable heat, generally clear water, fewer people than at peak and mid-range prices. July and August fill the town with Mexican families and long European holidays, at 33°C and feeling hotter; you survive it with a pool, a siesta and a late dinner.
Getting there and around
Arriving is this town's trump card: barely half an hour from Cancún airport down Highway 307, with no city to cross. Private transfers are arranged in advance; airport taxis work on fixed zone rates, so agree the figure before the bags go in the trunk. Even a night landing is easy — the road is four lanes the whole way.
ADO buses do not come into town: they drop you at the highway junction, 2 kilometres from the pier, where local taxis wait and charge something in the order of MX$50-100 at 2025 prices. The colectivo vans running the 307 between Cancún and Playa del Carmen also stop there for a fraction of that, if you travel light and can stand and wait.
Inside the port you need nothing but shoes: plaza, pier, leaning lighthouse and beach fit into a handful of blocks. The colonia is a 25-30 minute walk away with a highway crossing that demands genuine attention; a bicycle or a local taxi settles it. Taxis charge by zone rather than by meter, so ask the price before you set off.
A car only earns its keep if you plan to leave. The Ruta de los Cenotes begins at that same junction and runs inland to the west, and the 307 puts Playa del Carmen and the botanical garden south of town within easy reach. Otherwise it is a nuisance: parking near the pier in high season is a patience sport.
Where to stay, zone by zone
The port side is where the town happens: small hotels, apart-hotels and low buildings scattered along the streets that face the water, north and south of the pier. You walk to dinner, breakfast by the plaza and the reef sits straight ahead. It also holds the fewest rooms in town, and it is the first inventory to vanish when the big dates come.
The colonia — Colonia Joaquín Zetina Gasca on the map — sits on the far side of the 307 and carries the cheap end of our dataset, with rooms from US$32 in the 2026 scans. It is a genuine neighbourhood, with a tortillería, a market and neighbour prices. The trade-off is that every swim means crossing the highway and covering 2 kilometres.
North along Bahía Petempich and south towards Playa del Secreto stand the private-beach all-inclusives, and they are what pushes our typical rate up to the order of US$233 a night. They work as a bubble — wristband, buffet, big pool — with the village as a taxi outing of ten minutes or so, roughly MX$150-250 each way.
By profile: couples and snorkellers, the port within walking distance of the pier; tight budgets and long stays, the colonia with a bicycle; families with small children who want to stop deciding things, an all-inclusive out of town. Always check three details: real metres to the sand, air conditioning in the room rather than a fan, and whether there is a pool — in August that is infrastructure.
Eating and going out
You eat fish here, and you eat it well. Ceviche, fish tacos, octopus and a whole grilled fillet are the standard repertoire; seafront places run around MX$250-400 a head with a beer at 2025 prices, while the cocinas económicas in the colonia serve a set lunch for MX$80-150. The fishing co-op still works off the pier, and the plate shows it.
Around the plaza, seafood joints, pizzerias, a bakery and speciality coffee sit side by side at tourist prices; two blocks inland the same food drops by a third. Two practical warnings: in low season plenty of places close one weekday, and mosquitoes arrive at dusk, especially after rain. Keep repellent in the daypack if you plan to eat outdoors.
Nights are short by design: kitchens wind down around ten and by eleven the town is quiet. A couple of bars with live music near the plaza is the whole catalogue, and that is the point — anyone wanting clubs has Playa del Carmen half an hour down the road. In exchange, waking at seven to a glassy sea more than settles the account.

The gap between those two figures is not a measurement error — it measures the jump from the colonia's guesthouses to the coast's all-inclusives. Before you react to the number, check what each rate actually includes.
With so little inventory, availability matters more than price. For December to March, Holy Week and Mexican long weekends, book one or two months ahead: the port-side hotels have eight or twelve rooms and go first. In September and October you can decide a few days out and find rates that look like they belong to another town.
Before you confirm, look at the cancellation policy — in hurricane season the flexible rate earns its premium — at what "beachfront" means measured in metres, and at whether the all-inclusive covers drinks, tips and activities, since reef snorkelling is almost always extra because the pier co-ops run it.
