4.33692 reviewsI paid extra to stay at a hotel with a Hot Tub, due to some medical conditions I have, which require hot water therapy. The hot tub didn’t work the entire time we were at Villa Florida. There are many other hotels for much cheaper with significantly nicer rooms.
Terrible wifi, stinky old rooms. I need a place to stay for just one night (thankfully) totally not worth it. The rooms are old, simple and smelly (cigar, old ropes, humidity) they tried to cover it with deodorant in front of me! Literally saying, done, no more smell. I ask for a room change and they plague the place with more deodorant. Book a different place and avoid this hotel.
I loved tha location, the towels and jacuzzi!!! it's perfect to stay and rest at the city, the price was amazing, very good place!!
Planning your trip to San Andres Cholula
When to go
The dry season runs November to April: days of 22-25°C, clean skies and, on clear mornings, Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl rising behind the rooftops. It is the best weather of the year. The catch is the night: in December and January temperatures drop to around 5°C, and very few hotels here have heating, so ask about blankets and reliable hot water.
March to May is the warmest and dustiest stretch, with afternoons near 27°C and dry air. From June to September it rains most days, but it rains in the afternoon: mornings are fine for the pyramid, and the fields around town turn green. This is also when rates soften a little, particularly Monday to Thursday.
Watch the calendar. The Cholula fair in early September, around the feast of the Virgen de los Remedios, fills the town, as do Holy Week, Day of the Dead, long weekends and university graduation dates. Two honest warnings: you are above 2,100 metres, so the sun bites and walking tires you faster; and Popocatépetl drops a light dusting of ash now and then.
Getting there and around
Most people arrive via Mexico City. Buses leave the airport terminals for Puebla regularly and take about two and a half hours, with some services continuing to Cholula itself. If you are dropped at Puebla's CAPU terminal, add 20-30 minutes by taxi or shared van to San Andrés, depending on traffic along the Recta.
Hermanos Serdán airport, at Huejotzingo, is about 30 minutes away by taxi and is the comfortable option if you find a flight: schedules are limited. Driving from Mexico City takes roughly two hours on the toll road, with something on the order of MX$200 in tolls. Arriving on a weekend means circling for parking near the archaeological zone.
Local movement is easy. Shared vans along the Recta a Cholula cost on the order of MX$12 and pass often; a taxi or app ride to central Puebla is around MX$150, and ride-hailing works at most hours. Central San Andrés, the pyramid and San Pedro's square link up on foot. Do not count on the tourist train — it has been out of regular service for years.
Where to stay, zone by zone
Central San Andrés, around the church of San Andrés Apóstol and a few blocks from the archaeological zone, is the best base if you plan to walk. What exists here is small hotels and guesthouses, some in older buildings with a courtyard. The downside: Thursday to Saturday there is bar noise until late, and the streets are narrow and cobbled.
Immediately beyond the pyramid lies central San Pedro Cholula: the vast square with its arcades, the former convent of San Gabriel and the Capilla Real. Different municipality, same trip on foot. If a hotel simply advertises itself as "Cholula", check the map to see which side it is on — the atmosphere changes more than the distances do.
Eastwards, Atlixcáyotl and Angelópolis are modern San Andrés: wide avenues, towers, shopping centres and the Museo Internacional del Barroco. This is where the chain hotels and nearly all the business travel sit. You will sleep quietly and be ten to fifteen minutes from Puebla, but there is no street life and nothing worth walking to.
The Recta a Cholula and the streets near the university, out at Santa Catarina Mártir, suit visiting parents and anyone wanting a car and a mid-range rate. With just seven hotels priced in our scans, local choice is genuinely short: if you want variety or something specific, central Puebla is 20-30 minutes away and a far bigger market.
Eating and going out
Eating well is cheap here: chalupas, molotes, memelas and cemitas at the municipal market and the stands around both town centres, with a full set lunch on the order of MX$120. This is everyday Puebla cooking rather than a tourist version, and the morning and midday stalls are usually better than the late-night ones.
For a table, the arcades on San Pedro's square serve mole poblano, soups and beer almost in view of the pyramid; between August and September, chiles en nogada appear. Around the university there are cafés that open early and close late, useful if you work from a laptop. Pulque is still a regional habit and turns up without much hunting.
Cholula's nightlife is student-driven and tightly packed: bars and clubs a few blocks from the pyramid, beer around MX$50, and a loud crowd Thursday through Saturday. It quiets down markedly in July and December, between terms. If you sleep on those streets, ask for an interior room or bring earplugs; if you want silence, book in Atlixcáyotl.
Booking well
Small supply changes how you book. For the September fair, Holy Week, Day of the Dead, Mexican long weekends or graduation dates, reserve weeks ahead; the rest of the year, midweek, you can turn up with almost no plan. Saturdays lift rates even in quiet months, thanks to weekenders coming from Puebla and the capital.
