By bus you can come from Oaxaca City on Highway 175 via Miahuatlán, six hours or more of continuous curves, or along the coast from Huatulco and Puerto Escondido. In town, walking covers everything.
Is it worth sleeping in Pochutla instead of at the beach?
Worth it if you arrive or leave at night, if you need ATMs, a pharmacy, a hospital or paperwork, or if you want the cheapest bed in the area. Not worth it if you came for the ocean: Pochutla is a hot service town with no view, and the shared taxis to the beaches stop running after dark, which leaves you paying for a private one.
