Let me start by saying this is not totally Ramada inns fault. I thought I was on the Ramada inn website. Price was right, location & shuttle to airport. A company called Guest relations actually put me at the wrong Ramada inn, I was an hour away( Traffic). No shuttle service. When I called GS I was given a huge runaround. Told shuttle would be coming within 20 minutes. They also told me to check “Priceline”for my questions. Planning your trip to Tlajomulco De Zuniga
When to go
The dry months, November to May, are the easy ones: clean skies, afternoons around 25-28°C and genuinely cool nights — you are above 1,500 m, and January mornings can start near 6°C. April and May turn hot and dusty, 32-34°C, with the surrounding fields burnt brown and the air often hazy.
From June to September it rains most afternoons: short, heavy storms that green everything up and refill the Cajititlán lagoon. They also flood Periférico and López Mateos Sur, and a 30-minute run to the terminal can stretch past an hour. Flying out in those months, leave early and keep the airline app open.
Price peaks are set by Guadalajara, not Tlajomulco: the book fair in late November, the mariachi festival between late August and September, the October fiestas and the trade-show calendar at Expo Guadalajara. Add June 2026, with World Cup matches in the metro area — for those dates book months ahead and expect no bargains.
One local date matters. On 6 January, Cajititlán fills for the Reyes festival: thousands of pilgrims, slow village roads and every table on the malecón taken. It is worth seeing, but not on a day when you have a plane to catch or a meeting across the municipality.
Getting there and around
Guadalajara's international airport lies physically within this municipality, on the Chapala highway, and that geography explains most of the beds here. Allow 10-20 minutes from the terminal to the corridor hotels, 30-50 to central Guadalajara depending on the hour. Authorised airport taxis work on fixed zone fares, on the order of MX$350-550; ride-hailing is cheaper and has a signposted pickup point.
By road you come in on the Chapala highway from the lake side, or via Periférico Sur and López Mateos from the city. Long-distance buses do not usefully serve Tlajomulco itself: you arrive at one of Guadalajara's terminals and continue by taxi or app, another 30 to 45 minutes.
You can manage without a car, with patience. Mi Macro Periférico runs bus rapid transit along the ring road with feeder routes into the housing estates, and city buses cover López Mateos and the Chapala highway. Light rail Line 4 towards Tlajomulco is still under construction — plan as though it does not exist.
Walking between zones is not realistic: six-lane avenues, patchy pavements, industrial stretches with nothing open after dark. Rent a car if you plan to roam the metro area or drive down to Chapala; for one-off trips apps work fine and, at night, beat flagging something down on the street.
Where to stay, zone by zone

The airport corridor along the Guadalajara-Chapala highway is the obvious pick for a dawn departure or a 1am arrival. Check whether the shuttle runs at your hour and what it costs. There is nothing within walking distance, so assume you eat at the hotel or order in, and that the view is a car park.
Further north, the López Mateos Sur and Punto Sur axis is the practical base for meetings in the south of the city: offices, malls, chain restaurants, gyms. The price you pay is traffic, heavy in both directions at rush hour. East of there, Toluquilla and Santa Cruz del Valle are cheap and workmanlike, nothing more than that.
Cajititlán and the old centre of Tlajomulco have real village character and almost no formal hotels — the occasional small guesthouse, plus rooms let by the night. If you want water views, the Chapala shore is 45 minutes away with far more choice; if you want walkable streets and craft workshops, base yourself in Tlaquepaque instead.
Eating and going out
The food is solidly Jalisco: goat birria and carnitas at weekends, tortas ahogadas at midday, neighbourhood taquerías after dark. A set lunch lands somewhere around MX$100-150, tacos and a soft drink MX$80-150, and a sit-down dinner in the mall restaurants along López Mateos closer to MX$250-400 a head.
The Cajititlán malecón is the local outing: fried lake fish at tables facing the water, hills behind, the Santos Reyes parish church a few steps away. Honest caveat — the lagoon has had algae blooms and fish die-offs, smell included. Ask locally, or check recent reports, before driving half an hour for the view.
Nightlife of its own: essentially none. Corridor hotels have a bar and little else, malls close early, and the industrial roads empty out. For a proper evening, Tlaquepaque's centre is 20-30 minutes away and Guadalajara's Chapultepec strip about 40. Both are easy enough — just come back by app rather than hunting a taxi at 2am.
Booking well
With only a handful of hotels carrying an observed rate, the market tightens fast whenever the city hosts a fair, a congress or a match. Book Tuesday to Thursday nights earlier than instinct suggests: demand here is corporate and crew-driven, while weekends usually loosen up and occasionally undercut midweek.
Check the pin on the map before you pay. "Tlajomulco de Zúñiga" covers an enormous municipality: two hotels sharing that same municipal address can sit 25 km and an hour of traffic apart. Measure the real distance to your terminal, your meeting or the Chapala highway, not the town name on the listing.
Then ask what actually matters here: shuttle times and price, parking, whether the room faces the highway (truck noise is real), how late the kitchen serves, and check-out flexibility. If a flight is involved, pay a little extra for a cancellable rate — rebooking a night costs less than losing one.
