The staff are helpful and your cleaning crew is doing the best they can to maintain, but this place seriously deserves more meaningful maintenance than it is currently receiving. I stayed for one night on the second floor. Rooms on this floor are extremely outdated. I had to request a second room because the first smelled terrible (sewer odor). Second room smelled strongly of air freshener, but by morning the room also smelled bad. The shower drain is the likely culprit, which I didn’t bother to use. It looks like s…
Real nice big room. Clean and nice. Would have been nice if provided cups (teeth brushing and such) also a mini fridge would have been great but I can't complain as otherwise very nice. Pool was clean and quality water.
The room didn’t get cleaned at all during our stay. Even when requested they never came. If you enjoy spending your day with misquitos and sleeping with them then this hotel is perfect for you.
Planning your trip to Torreon
When to go
The good window runs October to April: days of 20-26°C, dry sun and clean skies. In December and January dawn temperatures drop to around zero, so bring a jacket even if you are in shirtsleeves by noon. This is the season to climb the Cerro de las Noas or walk the centre without paying for it afterwards.
May to September belongs to the heat: 38-40°C is normal, the air is dry and dusty, and rain arrives only as short storms in August and September. Air conditioning stops being a comfort and becomes a requirement. Note that because demand here is business demand, summer does not collapse rates the way it would on the coast.
Three things move the calendar: Holy Week, when pilgrims head up to the Cristo de las Noas; the city fair in high summer; and Santos Laguna home matches, which fill hotels on specific weekends. Outside those dates, the rhythm is set by Monday-to-Thursday work travel, not by tourism.
Getting there and around
Francisco Sarabia International (TRC) is small, close to town and quick to clear, with mostly domestic routes to Mexico City, Monterrey, Guadalajara and Tijuana. A taxi to the centre or the boulevard costs on the order of MX$200-300; agree the fare before you get in, or order the car through an app instead.
Overland, Torreón is a junction. The toll road reaches Saltillo in about three hours and Monterrey in four and a half; Durango is two and a half hours west, Chihuahua roughly six north. The bus terminal runs frequent departures in all those directions, plus the long eleven- or twelve-hour haul to Mexico City.
Scale is deceptive once you arrive. Torreón, Gómez Palacio and Lerdo form one continuous urban sprawl split between Coahuila and Durango, and distances are measured in long boulevards rather than blocks. The Metrobús Laguna handles the central axis into Gómez Palacio cheaply and decently; for everything else, taxis or apps at roughly MX$70-150 a ride.
A car simplifies everything, and almost any hotel on the boulevards or the Periférico has parking. Two honest warnings: rush hour on Independencia and Revolución at 8am and 6pm is real traffic, and the region's secondary highways are best driven in daylight, not at night.
Where to stay, zone by zone
The Boulevard Independencia corridor to the west, taking in Torreón Jardín and the shopping plazas around it, is where most visitors end up: mid-range chains, breakfast included, parking, meeting rooms and restaurants within reach. It is not charming and does not pretend to be, but it works, and it is the safe choice for a work trip or a night off the road.
The Centro holds what little there is to see on foot: the Plaza de Armas and the Catedral del Carmen, the Museo Arocena, the Canal de la Perla, the Alameda Zaragoza and the Paseo Morelos walk. Hotels here are older and cheaper, and a few have real character. The trade-off is blunt: once the shops close, the streets go quiet.
Along the Periférico Raúl López Sánchez, near the airport and the industrial parks, you get drive-in, drive-out hotels: predictable, comfortable, with nothing around them. They make sense if your meeting is in the industrial zone or you leave early for Durango or Saltillo, and no sense if you want to walk to dinner.

Eating and going out
Lagunera cooking is meat and slow ovens: asado de puerco, discada, machaca, weekend menudo and gorditas from neighbourhood stands. Sirloin tacos and carne asada are close to a local religion. In the centre's small dining rooms a set lunch runs around MX$100-150 and tends to be better than the tablecloths suggest.
Sit-down dinner happens on the boulevards — Independencia, Colón, Diagonal Reforma — and inside the shopping plazas: steakhouses, seafood places, cafés. The centre has good spots too, but they shut early midweek, so if you sleep there and eat late, plan on taking a car back.
Nightlife means boulevards and weekends: bars scattered along the strips rather than one walkable district. Two outings genuinely justify the trip: the climb to the Cristo de las Noas at sunset, with the whole Comarca laid out below, and a day trip to Parras de la Fuente, about two hours east, for vineyards and shade.
Booking well
With 14 hotels measured, Torreón has none of a tourist city's depth. When a convention, the summer fair and a home match land in the same week, the place genuinely sells out. Travelling Monday to Thursday, book one or two weeks ahead; arriving at a weekend, you can usually leave it late and still do well.
The US$42 end of our scans corresponds to simple hotels in the centre or out on the highway, no breakfast, and air conditioning worth confirming before you commit. The typical rate of around US$92 buys a mid-range chain with parking, breakfast and cooling that copes with 40°C. In summer, paying that gap is not indulgence.
