Typically we like to try out staying at different Hotels so when we invite friends or more family to join, we suggest the nicest hotel with the best experience. Sadly, this hotel will never be that option. When we checked in, the front office was staffed by two very kind gentlemen who assisted us. The staff was great on day 1. Really great hotel located in the center of the historical district in zacatecas! The rooms are nice and cozy and the service is great! Everything is accessible from the hotel and walking distance. The architecture is phenomenal and dates back to 1770! It's like being transported back in time. You will definitely enjoy your stay! The breakfast is also delicious and they have buffet on Sundays!

Planning your trip to Zacatecas
When to go
March to May is the sweet spot: dry days of 22-26°C, hard blue skies and evenings that still want a jacket. October and November are just as pleasant with fewer people around. Keep the altitude in mind: the midday sun bites even when the shade feels cool, and the gap between two in the afternoon and ten at night can be fifteen degrees.
Winter is the honest caveat. From December to February the pre-dawn hours sit near freezing and plenty of colonial buildings heat badly, so ask about heating rather than assuming it exists. In exchange, January and February are the quietest weeks of the year and the easiest time to find a room and talk down a midweek rate.
July to September brings rain, usually in short afternoon storms that leave the cobbles slick and the countryside green. It is also festival season: the Morismas de Bracho at the end of August and the Feria Nacional de Zacatecas from late August into September fill the city. Holy Week, with the Festival Cultural Zacatecas, is the annual price peak.
Getting there and around
General Leobardo C. Ruiz airport (ZCL) lies about 25 km north, with domestic flights and a few routes to the United States. There is no convenient public link into town: a taxi to the centre runs somewhere around MX$400-500, worth arranging ahead for a late arrival. Several boulevard hotels operate their own transfer, so ask when you book.
By road the city is well placed: roughly 2 hours from Aguascalientes, 2.5 from San Luis Potosí, 4 from Durango, 5 from Guadalajara and 7-8 from Mexico City. The bus terminal is south of the centre; a taxi to the cathedral costs on the order of MX$80-120, and city buses about MX$12 a ride.
The old town walks well, but it walks uphill. The alleyways are lovely and merciless with heavy luggage, and driving inside them is worse: narrow one-way lanes, almost no parking. With a car, book a hotel with a garage and leave it there on centre days. The cable car between Cerro del Grillo and La Bufa works as both transport and lookout.
On safety, be straight about it. Zacatecas state has genuine security problems and some highways are no place to improvise. The capital's historic centre is touristed, patrolled and calm in practice. The workable rule is to drive in daylight, use toll roads where they exist, and avoid night runs toward Fresnillo, Jerez or the interior of the state.
Where to stay, zone by zone
The historic centre is the reason for the trip. Around Avenida Hidalgo, the Plaza de Armas and the Plazuela Goitia you will find cantera mansions converted into hotels, with covered courtyards and high ceilings, all within walking distance of the cathedral, the Pedro Coronel and Rafael Coronel museums and the Mina El Edén. This is where rates above the median cluster.
One step down, the streets near the Jardín Independencia and the Alameda García de la Cadena hold plain, central hotels: cheaper, less charming, about ten minutes on foot from the cathedral and uphill on the way back. A sensible choice if location and price matter more to you than colonial courtyards.
Along Boulevard Adolfo López Mateos and the highway exits sit the chain and business hotels: easy parking, predictable rooms, zero atmosphere. They earn their place if you are here for work, arriving late by car, or the centre is booked out for the fair. Budget a taxi or a bus each time you want dinner in the old town.
Guadalupe, the adjoining city about 10 km east, offers cheaper beds and the outstanding Museo de Guadalupe, but leaves you dependent on transport for everything else. With only 13 hotels scanned, a genuinely small market, the difference between sleeping in the centre and outside it shows up more in time and taxi fares than in money.
Eating and going out
Zacatecan cooking is highland food and not remotely shy: asado de boda with ancho chile, birria, enchiladas zacatecanas, griddled gorditas and ranch cheeses. You eat well and cheaply in the centre's small fondas and at the morning stalls; a set lunch runs around MX$120-150, while a sit-down dinner with a drink is double that or more.
Mezcal is local, the south of the state produces its own, and there is Zacatecan wine from nearby valleys too, which surprises most visitors. Bars and cafés concentrate on and around Avenida Hidalgo. The rhythm is emphatically a weekend one: midweek the city eats early and shuts early.
The callejoneada is the classic night out: a brass-and-drum band, a small clay jug of mezcal hung round your neck, and a crowd winding through the alleys singing for a couple of hours. It sets off from near the Plaza de Armas most Friday and Saturday nights. If your room faces an alley, that party will pass under your window.

Zacatecas is a small market: our 2026 scans found just 13 hotels with a real price, from US$43 a night and a median of about US$84. With so little supply, long weekends, Holy Week and the September fair fill up and get expensive fast, so book weeks ahead for those dates rather than days.
Midweek, and in January and February, the opposite applies: there is space and there is room to bargain. Always compare the hotel's own rate against the platforms, since in small cities the gap is often real, and confirm parking in writing if you are driving. In the centre that is the detail that causes the most trouble.
Before paying, ask three concrete things: whether the room faces the street or an internal courtyard, since many mansions have windowless rooms; whether there is real heating in winter; and how many steps stand between reception and your door. If you sleep lightly and arrive on a weekend, request an interior room.
Be sceptical of listings that claim five minutes from the centre without giving an address: that usually means the boulevard. Check the map and look for real reference points, the cathedral, the Plazuela Goitia, the Cerro del Grillo, before you confirm the booking.
