About staying in Barra De Navidad
Barra de Navidad sits on a sandbar between the Pacific and a lagoon, and that geography decides everything. Avenida Veracruz, the main street, holds the small hotels, shops and comedores; Calle Legazpi runs along the beach and the malecón; across the water, Isla Navidad is a marina-and-golf resort five minutes away by panga. Melaque, five kilometres north, is the bigger neighbour with calmer swimming. Our 2026 scans found only 5 hotels with a real price here: from US$54 a night, with a typical from-rate of about US$104. The stock is tiny, and from December to April the snowbirds fill it.

Which part of town should I stay in?
Avenida Veracruz and its cross streets for price and for being steps from the plaza, the church and the cheap kitchens. Legazpi and the malecón cost more and buy you the sea view, plus late bar noise in season. The lagoon side is quieter. Isla Navidad is a different budget entirely and reached only by boat.
When are rooms cheapest?
May to November, bottoming out in September, when it rains, cyclone risk peaks and some businesses simply close. December to April belongs to the Canadians and Americans who stay for months, and Holy Week packs the town with families from Guadalajara and Colima. Our scans logged rates from US$54 and a typical from-price of about US$104.
How do I get here and get around?
Manzanillo airport (ZLO) is 35-45 minutes away on Highway 200; a taxi runs roughly MX$700-900. Guadalajara is about five hours by car or bus. In town you walk everywhere in twenty minutes, and shared vans to Melaque leave every few minutes for around MX$15-25. Don't drive Highway 200 after dark.
Can you swim off Barra's beach?
Carefully. The sand shelves off fast, the waves break short and close to shore, and the undertow can be strong. It is not a beach for small children or weak swimmers. For easy swimming, head to the bay at Melaque or to Cuastecomate. Barra is better for walking, sunsets and panga rides across the lagoon.
