About staying in Boca Del Rio
Boca del Río is the modern half of the Veracruz conurbation: beachfront hotels along Boulevard Manuel Ávila Camacho, shopping centres, the World Trade Center, and a line of seafood restaurants at the mouth of the Jamapa river. People sleep here for three honest reasons — an easy family beach on foot, a work trip or convention, and being twenty minutes from the historic centre of Veracruz. Our 2026 scans logged 14 hotels with a real price: from US$28 a night, with a typical rate of about US$80. Gulf water is naturally silty; what you come for is the fish, the seafront walk and the local warmth.

Which area should I book?
For beach without crossing a highway, the Mocambo and Costa de Oro strip along the boulevard. For work or a conference, the Las Américas area around the World Trade Center, surrounded by malls and restaurants. Old Boca del Río, by the river, is cheaper and more local. If you want nightlife and older buildings, consider staying in Veracruz centre, 8-10 km up the road.
When is it cheap, and when does it spike?
Cheapest on weekdays during the nortes months, October to March, when cold wind and grey skies keep beachgoers away. It spikes for the Veracruz Carnival (February or March), Holy Week, July and August, long weekends and the last week of December. On those dates prices drift well above what our scans recorded.
How do I arrive and get around without a car?
Veracruz airport (VER) is about 20 km out, 25-40 minutes; the authorised taxi runs around MX$350-450 and ride apps work fine. Long-distance buses arrive at the Veracruz terminal on Díaz Mirón, a 20-30 minute taxi from Boca. Local buses run the boulevard for MX$12-15, and taxis within the conurbation cost roughly MX$60-150.
Is the beach actually worth it?
Set your expectations. The Gulf carries river sediment, so the water is brown or greenish most of the year, and after heavy rain it is better skipped. Mocambo is the best stretch of sand locally and works well for families and long walks. For clear water you need a boat from Antón Lizardo, about 40 minutes south, out to the reefs.
