Which part of Celaya should I stay in?
It depends why you came. The Centro Histórico, around the Jardín Principal, is the only district where you can walk to dinner and back, though it has few hotels. Boulevard Adolfo López Mateos holds most of the business chains, with parking and included breakfast. If your meetings are in the industrial parks, sleep on the north side and skip the boulevard traffic.
When are rooms cheapest here?
The opposite of a resort town: Monday to Thursday is the expensive stretch, when corporate travellers arrive. Friday through Sunday occupancy drops and so do rates. The year-end weeks, with plants shut, are the quietest of all. Our 2026 scans found rooms from US$33 and a typical from-price of around US$60, which is where most of the market sits.
How do I get to Celaya and get around?
Querétaro airport (QRO) is the closest, about an hour away on the 45D toll road; Bajío airport (BJX, Silao) is roughly ninety minutes. Buses from Mexico City run constantly and take three and a half to four hours. The bus station sits outside the centre, so budget MX$60-100 for a taxi. In town, walk the centre and use taxis or a ride app elsewhere, MX$60-130 a trip.
Is Celaya safe to visit?
Straight answer: Guanajuato has lived through years of cartel violence and Celaya has appeared in the country's worst homicide statistics. That violence is targeted and rarely touches visitors, but be sensible. Move around by day, stay out of outlying colonias after dark, don't drive rural highways at dusk, and take a taxi or app back to your hotel at night.
