In the first days, we had no issues, but then it was horrible. I was staying at the holiday Inn, because I have lots of points. I'm also a diamond member there. Also, I'm a gold member here . We also had wine that we bought at a local winery in the pool area, and they charge us for an uncorked fee, which is absurd. Trust me, dont mind paying for food service. Big room, big swimming pool, big gym. The housekeeping is pretty efficient. Finally breakfast is pretty good! There is everything that you could want to eat for breakfast!
We have stayed here twice already, two weeks each time, and absolutely love this hotel. Rooms are super clean with lots of storage space, spacious bathroom with large shower (no bathtub), small kitchenette with mini-fridge and coffee maker, no microwave though. The pool was a joy to go to, was even heated in November because the nights are so cold. And I have to say the food at the restaurant is delicious. The staff is always super friendly, courteous, accommodating. The service is above and beyond excellent.
Planning your trip to Celaya
When to go
Celaya sits at around 1,750 m in the Bajío, so the air is dry most of the year and nights always cool off. October and November, then February and March, are the comfortable months: days of 25-28°C and clean skies over the plateau.
April and May bring dry heat, afternoons of 32-34°C, and air thick with dust and smoke from crop burning. It is bearable in the shade, but if you suffer from allergies this is the worst stretch of the year; ask for air conditioning and windows that actually seal.
Rain falls from June to September, almost always in the afternoon, hard and short. It cools things down and greens the countryside, but it snarls the boulevard and the highway exits. If you have an evening flight out of Querétaro, leave early.
December and January are cold after dark, 3-6°C with frost in the fields. Plenty of budget hotels have no heating at all, so ask before booking. In exchange, the year-end weeks empty the city of business travellers and usually deliver the softest rates of the year.
Getting there and around
The practical route is flying into Querétaro (QRO) and driving an hour on the 45D — that is how most people working the industrial corridor arrive. Bajío airport (BJX) at Silao is about ninety minutes away and sometimes has better fares. From Mexico City's airport, count three and a half to four hours by road.
Buses leave constantly from Mexico City's Terminal Norte, and roughly hourly from Querétaro, León, Irapuato and Guadalajara. The Celaya bus station is not central: budget MX$60-100 for a taxi to a boulevard hotel or the old town.
In town, the historic centre takes a good hour to walk end to end. Everything else — hotels, malls, chain restaurants — is strung along Boulevard Adolfo López Mateos. City buses cost around MX$10-12 but the routes are hard to decode as a visitor; ride apps work reliably.
If your business is in the industrial parks, rent a car. Shift changes clog the boulevard morning and evening, so time your drives. Stick to toll roads, fill up in daylight, and avoid secondary rural highways after dark.
Where to stay, zone by zone
The Centro Histórico, between the Jardín Principal and the Templo del Carmen, is the only genuinely walkable part of town: arcades, cafés, the old water tower a few blocks away. It has only a handful of hotels, some in converted townhouses, and several of the lowest rates we saw — near that US$33 floor. Evenings go quiet early.
Boulevard Adolfo López Mateos is the city's real spine and holds most of the business hotels: parking, breakfast, decent wifi, zero charm. This is where the mid-range rates in our scans cluster, around US$60, and where you can still find a room late on a Tuesday.
Around the bus station and the highway exits there are cheap places aimed at people passing through. Fine if you arrive late and leave early, but check traffic noise and whether parking is enclosed before you commit.
North and east, toward the industrial parks and the Galerías Celaya area, the hotels are newer chain properties. They make sense if your plant is on that side. Keep in mind how thin the market is — 15 hotels with a real price in our scans — so alternatives disappear fast.
Eating and going out
Cajeta is the city's calling card, sold in sweet shops around the centre in jars and little wooden boxes, plain or spread on bread and lollipops. It is the obvious souvenir, cheap and genuinely local; if you fly home with a jar, put it in checked luggage.
Everyday eating means fondas and markets. A set lunch runs MX$90-130, tacos MX$15-25 apiece, and weekend mornings bring barbacoa and carnitas. In the centre, stands selling gorditas and stewed fillings will sort out breakfast for very little.
For a dinner with clients, the boulevard has grill houses and national chains: figure MX$250-400 per person with drinks. The old town keeps a few cantinas and cafés around the garden, cheaper and with far more character.
Nightlife is modest and concentrated on Friday and Saturday in a handful of bars. If you want a proper night out, Querétaro is an hour away. Either way, take a taxi or app back — this is not a city for aimless late-night wandering.
Booking well
Celaya's calendar runs backwards compared with a tourist town: Monday to Thursday is when rooms tighten, as suppliers and engineers roll in. Book a week or two ahead for midweek stays; for a Saturday night you will almost always find something, and cheaper.

Ask about three things every time: enclosed parking, whether breakfast is included, and whether the room has air conditioning plus some form of heating for January nights. If you are staying several nights on business, it is worth asking the front desk directly about a corporate rate.
One honest safety note. The state has endured years of cartel violence and Celaya has featured in the country's grimmest statistics. It is not aimed at visitors, but choose a hotel on a busy, well-lit street, do your highway driving in daylight, and favour rates with flexible cancellation in case plans shift.
