First time staying in this Hotel and let me tell you that it's a lot better then the Holiday Espress right across the parting. Rooms were clean and well air conditioning, bathrooms were cleaned. The entire property was inviting. Front desk employee's were help . The Breakfast was good and plenty of options, only 10 minute drive to the Airport. Hotel offers a free shuttle bus every hour
Terrible hotel and outdated. Carpet was dirty. Furniture is from the 80s. A/C was super loud and wouldn’t let us sleep. Bathroom door knob was missing locking button. There are hotels with similar prices that are much better than this.
Planning your trip to El Salto
When to go
El Salto sits at about 1,500 metres, so expect highland weather rather than tropical heat. November to February brings dry, sunny days of 24-26°C and nights dropping to 6-8°C — pack a jacket, especially for early shifts. March to May is the hot, dusty stretch: 31-32°C at midday, hazy air and smoke from agricultural burning on the horizon.
From June to September it rains most afternoons, sometimes hard. The countryside greens up and the heat eases, but the highway floods and a six o'clock downpour turns a twenty-minute drive into an hour. If you have an afternoon meeting or an evening flight in those months, leave with a generous cushion of time.
The calendar that matters here is industrial, not touristic. Monday to Thursday the hotels fill with suppliers, auditors and engineers; by Friday afternoon they empty out. The slack weeks are the year-end holidays and Holy Week, when many plants stop. And when Guadalajara fills for a major expo or the FIL book fair in late November, the pressure reaches out this far.
Getting there and around
Guadalajara's international airport, over in Tlajomulco, is about 20-25 km away: 25 to 40 minutes depending on traffic. An authorised taxi runs on the order of MX$450-600 and ride apps usually come in a little cheaper, though terminal pickup has its own rules. If your company sends a car, take it — it will be the simplest leg of the whole trip.
From central Guadalajara it is roughly 30 km via Periférico and the El Salto highway: 40 minutes on a good day, over an hour at peak. The crunch comes at shift changes, 6-8am and 3-7pm, mixed in with heavy truck traffic. Coming from Zapotlanejo or Chapala, the Macrolibramiento ring road saves you crossing the city altogether.
Public transport works but is slow: Light Rail Line 1 ends at Periférico Sur, where buses leave for El Salto and Juanacatlán at around MX$10-15 a ride, and Mi Macro Periférico runs the length of the ring road. After dark, taxis and apps thin out away from the main corridor, and walking the highway is not an option — there are no continuous pavements.
Where to stay, zone by zone
Start with the obvious: there is very little here. Our 2026 scans found 3 hotels with a real price in the municipality, from US$86 a night with a typical rate of about US$89. These are corporate-profile properties — a decent room, parking, early breakfast, proper invoicing — rather than places with character. Choosing here is a logistics exercise, not a romantic one.
The town centre, around the plaza and the church, is where El Salto still feels like a town: shops, market, cheap kitchens, people on the pavement. It works if your plant sits in El Salto's own parks and you want to walk to dinner instead of eating beside the highway. The trade-off is narrow streets, scarce parking and early morning noise.
The highway corridor towards Las Pintas, El Verde and El Castillo is the strip that blends into Tlaquepaque and Periférico: even less charm, but far handier if your plant is on the western side or you keep shuttling to the airport and Guadalajara. Judge it in kilometres from your gate, not by neighbourhood feel — that is the only variable that pays off.
The honest alternative, especially if you are mixing work with sightseeing, is sleeping in San Pedro Tlaquepaque — El Parián, Independencia street, hotels in old townhouses — 20-30 minutes away, or along the Chapala road near the airport. More choice, more restaurants and often better value than El Salto's handful of beds.
Eating and going out
Eating in El Salto is everyday and unpretentious: set lunches in family kitchens for something like MX$80-120, goat birria at weekends, morning carnitas, and highway taquerías open late. Guadalajara's tortas ahogadas are on every other corner and pack more chilli heat than they look; ask for a half-drowned one if you don't know the house sauce.
The municipal market and the weekly tianguis are as close as this gets to a food scene: juices, tacos de canasta, cut fruit, ranch cheese. Don't expect wine lists or chef-driven cooking. On Sundays the central plaza fills with families and stalls, which is the best moment to see the town living behind the factory sheds.
Going out at night means driving, for almost everyone. Tlaquepaque, half an hour away, has El Parián and the bars around Independencia; Guadalajara, 40-60 minutes out, gives you the Chapultepec and Providencia scenes. A ride back from Tlaquepaque runs roughly MX$250-400 depending on the hour. If you plan to drink, leave the car: breath-test checkpoints are routine across the metro area.
Booking well
With three hotels in the municipality, scarcity is the issue, not price. Monday to Thursday, and during audit weeks or production line launches, they simply sell out. Book as soon as your dates firm up, and book even earlier if your visit collides with a major Guadalajara fair — when the city fills, the outlying rooms go first.
Check the street address, not the municipality label. Several places listed under "El Salto" actually sit in Las Pintas, in Tlaquepaque or along the Chapala road, and the gap can mean 15 km and 40 minutes in rush-hour traffic. Ask for the exact location and measure it against your plant gate, not against downtown Guadalajara.
