Really good service! I love thier breakfast, they even have a safe box in the room. As a matter of fact I'm going back next week. But this time I'm staying in the in the center, we stayed in this area because our cousin lives close by.
Not great, and really not a good value. The rooms are decent, although the floors are not well mopped. The service is terrible - I had two pieces of clothing disappear from my room (they were accidentally left on the bed), had scheduled a shuttle bus that was so late they ended up just calling a cab, and the laundry service is very expensive and very slow. The restaurants around the hotel aren't bad, the hotel breakfast itself is mediocre.
Planning your trip to Tlaquepaque
When to go
October and November are the sweet spot: the rains have stopped, the valley is still green, days sit around 26-28°C and nights need a light jacket. March to May is the hot dry season, 32-35°C by mid-afternoon with dust in the air; the shaded courtyards help, but plan your shopping and workshop visits for the morning.
From June to September it rains most afternoons — short, heavy storms that leave the mornings washed clean. It is not a bad time to come: fewer crowds on the lanes and cooler air. Bring a rain shell and keep 5pm to 8pm loose. June also brings the ceramics fair and the San Pedro patron-saint festivities, which fill the few hotels in town.
December and January bring cool nights of 7-10°C, and in old high-ceilinged houses you feel it — ask about heating before you book. Check the metro-area calendar too: the Guadalajara book fair in late November, the international mariachi festival between August and September, and trade fairs at Expo Guadalajara all squeeze availability across the valley, Tlaquepaque included.
Getting there and around
Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla airport (GDL) lies about 20 km out along the Chapala highway: 25 to 40 minutes depending on traffic. The authorised airport taxi runs around MX$400-500; ride apps, which work well across the whole metro area, usually come in under that. After dark the app is the sensible choice.
The Nueva Central Camionera, Guadalajara's long-distance bus terminal, sits in Tlaquepaque territory, some ten minutes from the old town. Arrive from Mexico City, Colima or the Bajío and you effectively step off in town. The older terminal, serving nearby destinations such as Chapala, is in Guadalajara and easy to reach by light rail or taxi.
Light rail Line 3 crosses the municipality with a stop a few blocks from the centre, putting Guadalajara's cathedral about twenty minutes away for around ten pesos, with none of the traffic on Avenida Revolución. It is by far the strongest argument for sleeping here and still having the big city within easy reach.
Central Tlaquepaque is walked end to end: the andadores are pedestrian and everything worth seeing fits into ten blocks. With a car, expect narrow one-way streets and private lots at roughly MX$100-150 for half a day. Tonalá is ten to fifteen minutes away, and its market days are the one real reason to have wheels.
Where to stay, zone by zone
The historic centre is the answer for almost everyone: courtyard houses with ten or fifteen rooms around the Jardín Hidalgo, Calle Independencia and Juárez, steps from galleries, museums and restaurants. Our 2026 scans found only three Tlaquepaque hotels with a real price — from US$71, typically around US$89 — a small sample that fairly describes the market: few beds, nearly all of them boutique.
The price of that location is noise. El Parián has mariachis from Friday to Sunday until late, and the surrounding streets amplify everything. Ask for a room off the inner patio, away from the square. These are also historic buildings: stairs, few lifts, uneven floors and modern bathrooms squeezed into nineteenth-century walls. Charming, not always practical with big suitcases or limited mobility.
Around the bus terminal and along the arteries towards the Periférico you will find functional hotels and roadside motels. Nobody stays there for pleasure: they work for a 6am bus or a work trip to the municipality's industrial parks. No charm, nothing walkable, and surroundings you would rather not stroll at night.
If you want a wider price range or real nightlife, sleep in Guadalajara — Centro, Colonia Americana or Providencia — and come over by Line 3 during the day. The honest trade-off: Tlaquepaque wins after dark, once the tour buses leave and the town belongs to whoever stayed; Guadalajara wins on choice and on cheap rooms.
Eating and going out
Start the day at the municipal market or a centre fonda: tortas ahogadas drowned in chile de árbol salsa, beef birria in its broth, carne en su jugo with beans and bacon. A set lunch runs about MX$120-180; a proper dinner with mezcal and dessert — jericalla, the local custard, is the classic — lands around MX$300-500 a head in the courtyard restaurants on Independencia.
El Parián is the local institution: a full block of cantinas around a bandstand, with mariachis charging by the song, roughly MX$150-250 a piece. It is touristy and genuine at the same time. Agree the price before they strike up, and order a cazuela, the tequila-and-grapefruit-soda cocktail served in a clay bowl. Share one; the large sizes are enormous.
Midweek the town winds down early: by eleven little is open beyond El Parián and a bar or two on the andador. For late drinks, Avenida Chapultepec and Colonia Americana in Guadalajara are twenty to thirty minutes by taxi, around MX$150-250 on an app. Coming back late is easy; walking alone through the empty outer streets is not worth it.
Booking well
With so few hotels, booking early matters more than being clever. Weekends, long holiday bridges, the June ceramics fair and the weeks of the book fair or big Expo Guadalajara events empty the centre's inventory. If your dates fall there, reserve months ahead or accept sleeping in Guadalajara and commuting in on the light rail.
Ask the specific questions before you pay: does the room face the patio or the street, is there air conditioning and any heating for January nights, is breakfast included, does the hotel have its own parking, and until what time is reception staffed. Small courtyard hotels close their desk early and appreciate knowing your arrival time.
