Great customer service by our server at the restaurant at the pool, don’t remember his name but his from Veracruz. He was on point with his service. Also there’s lots of mosquito so make sure you go prepare.
The hotel is a bit outdated, it could use a refresh. The beach is nice calm and clean. The service is a bit slow. They ask for an ID to get towels from the front desk even though you get an arm band. The pool is a bit dirty but then again it's an out door pool with palm trees and other vegetation. The afternoon pool bartender Jesus "Alex" is the greatest host and makes great cocktails.
Loreto Golf Resort is attractive, a little dated, with friendly staff assisting you. The price was reasonable. The environment is lovely with a beautiful beach. The rooms were fine with a noticeable slow drainage of the shower water. Rooms were clean. There was a 4' deep pool with a bar. There were no railings on the hallway stairs. I would returned to the hotel. I felt comfortable and safe there. My age is 73.
Planning your trip to Loreto
When to go
The good season runs November to April: days of 22-27°C, cool nights and calm water most mornings. It is also the busiest and the priciest, peaking over the year-end holidays, Holy Week, and in February and March, when whale watchers arrive and the long-stay winter regulars settle in for weeks at a time.
Summer is honest about itself. June to September pushes past 35°C with sticky humidity, the sea feels like bathwater and the town slows right down. August to October is hurricane season: a direct hit is not an annual event, but a storm passing well offshore can shut the water down for three days and cancel your island trip.
One local quirk: from November to February the northerly winds, the nortes, kick up a short steep sea and the boats stay tied up. They rarely ruin a trip, but if you came for the islands, build in spare days. May and October are the sensible shoulder months: manageable heat, few visitors, softer rates.
Getting there and around
Loreto has an international airport about seven kilometres south of town, right on the highway. It takes flights from Tijuana and Mexico City year round, plus seasonal service from the United States and Canada, with Los Angeles and Calgary the usual winter routes. A taxi into the centre costs on the order of MX$250-350, and many small hotels will collect you if you ask when booking.
Overland, the Transpeninsular Highway (Federal 1) is the only road in. Line buses connect with La Paz, roughly five hours south, and with Santa Rosalía and Guerrero Negro to the north; the La Paz fare runs around MX$600-800. Driving is pleasant by day and genuinely risky after dark: no lighting, loose cattle, narrow shoulders.
In town you do not need a car. It is a ten-minute walk from the malecón to the mission, and local taxis charge something like MX$50-80. A car earns its keep for San Javier, the mountain mission 36 kilometres inland on a paved, twisting road, and for Nopoló or the beaches south. Rentals go for about MX$800-1,200 a day in season.
Where to stay, zone by zone
The historic centre is the safe bet. Around the Plaza Cívica, the mission of Nuestra Señora de Loreto and pedestrianised Calle Salvatierra sit posadas and small hotels, often with a courtyard and a plunge pool, all a few minutes from restaurants and from the boat operators. This is the zone where paying for location genuinely pays off.
Along the malecón and the streets facing the water you get sea views and an evening breeze, at the cost of some weekend noise as families come out to stroll and eat. Waterfront rooms go first and generally sit at the upper end of the range our scans recorded.
Nopoló, eight kilometres south, is the planned resort zone: bigger hotels, a golf course, tennis courts, a long beach and very little else. It works if you want a pool, silence and everything on one property, but without a car every meal out turns into a taxi ride. It is not the Loreto of the square and the mission.
Further south, Puerto Escondido and Ligüí are about the marina and kayak camps rather than hotels: almost nothing to sleep in, and a car for everything. The colonias climbing toward the highway are cheaper and perfectly calm, but they mean walking in the sun or paying taxis, and with only eight hotels scanned the saving is usually smaller than you would expect.
Eating and going out
The food is fish and shellfish, plainly handled: battered fish tacos, grilled chocolate clams, shredded fish machaca for breakfast, dates from the palm groves nearby. Tacos run about MX$30-45 each, a set lunch MX$150-200, and a sit-down dinner with a sea view MX$350-500 a head. Cash still smooths things over in the smaller places.
Nights are short and early. There are bars in the centre and terraces on the malecón, but most call it a day around eleven; the real plan is a long dinner and an early boat. Outside high season several kitchens close one or two days a week, and a few shut for the whole of September.
Two practical notes: the town is small and the best tables fill up in January and February, so book or turn up early. And if you drive up to San Javier, take water and something to eat, because what is open up there is minimal and varies from day to day.

Book one to two months out for January to March and for Holy Week, and pick cancellable rates: the nortes and winter flight schedules change plans often enough. Confirm in writing whether an airport pickup is included, since not every small hotel offers one.
Always compare the centre against Nopoló before you commit: the price gap rarely justifies staying out of town if you are car-free. Ask about air conditioning and which way the room faces if you come in summer, and about heating or extra blankets in January, when nights can drop to around 10°C.
