Beach is nice, but you couldn't swim due to big waves and undertow. 15 minute drive to Audiencia Beach for a great cove with Beach amenities. Dining was nice, food food reasonable prices. Overall good value for the money. Staff were super friendly and helpful.
We've been coming here for years. They've upgraded it and maintained it over the years, very good! It's located directly in front of the beach and nearby to many many restaurants, a casino, stores, cinema, etc. I feel they're not expensive, reasonable. The rooms were great. Beds, A/C, towels, bathroom everything very nice. We were on the second floor with a patio view of the beach. They also have a pool and their own restaurant which offers breakfast and it's always amazing to this day I love it!!! They also offer boat trips for extra of course we've done it before it's nice they take you out…
The staff is great but the location is horrible you can not use the beach because it is not safe. The rooms are clean but rust and outdated. Nothing like the pictures. Towles are horrible torn and very old. They want to charge you for every last thing usually I'm ok with that but not when the building is horrible and falling apart.
Planning your trip to Manzanillo
When to go
The good window runs December to April: 28-31°C, humidity you can live with, calm sea and almost no rain. It is also high season, peaking over Christmas, New Year and Holy Week, when the beach corridor fills with families from Guadalajara and Colima and the town's short supply of rooms disappears fast.
July and August are the other peak, domestic and loud: school holidays, Miramar packed at weekends and rates that climb even though it rains most afternoons. Enjoyable if you like a crowded Mexican beach; the opposite of a quiet week if you don't.
June to October is the real rainy season. The humidity turns heavy, 30°C feels like 36, and September is the height of hurricane season on this coast. In exchange the hills are green, the water is warm and rates fall — just read the cancellation terms before you pay.
May and November are the hinge months and, for many people, the best of the year: strong but dry heat, beaches without crowds, mid-range prices. November also tends to bring the sailfish tournaments that gave the city its nickname.
Getting there and around
Flights land at Playa de Oro international (ZLO), some 35-40 km northwest of downtown on Highway 200. Mexico City and Guadalajara run all year; a handful of US and Canadian routes appear for the winter. Airport taxis charge fixed rates by zone, on the order of MX$500-800 to the hotel strip.
By road, the toll highway from Guadalajara takes about four hours, and the city of Colima is ninety minutes away. The bus station has frequent departures to Guadalajara, Colima and Puerto Vallarta, and Highway 200 links north to Barra de Navidad and Melaque, southeast to Cuyutlán.
Everything in town hangs off one spine: Boulevard Miguel de la Madrid, running roughly 15 km from downtown and the port out to Miramar. City buses cover it every few minutes for MX$12-15 and are the cheapest way to move — sharing the asphalt with the port's container trucks.
Taxis have no meters, so settle the price before getting in; downtown to Miramar tends to land around MX$200-300. Ride-hailing apps work erratically, so don't count on them late at night. A rental car buys you the Jalisco coast and Cuyutlán; without one, choose your hotel by its exact kilometre on the boulevard.
Where to stay, zone by zone
The Centro is a genuine port: cranes, market, seafood counters and the sailfish monument on the malecón, plus plain, cheap hotels that live off work travellers and people passing through. You eat very well for very little, but there is noise, heat and no swimmable beach. Fine for a night or two.
Las Brisas is the best all-round bet: a long dark-sand beach on the inner bay, mid-sized hotels at contained prices, five minutes by taxi from downtown. A little further on, Salagua and Playa Azul are the practical zone — supermarkets, banks, everyday food — with hotels that impress nobody but do the job.
The Santiago peninsula holds the expensive end: complexes with a marina, golf and views over both bays, plus the sheltered cove of La Audiencia, the best swimming beach around. It is handsome and cut off — nowhere is walkable, and anything you consume on site is priced accordingly.
North of there, Santiago village has the cheapest rooms near a beach; Miramar is the family-and-surf beach with serious shorebreak; Club Santiago and La Boquita are quiet residential pockets that assume you drive. Much of that area's supply is rental condos, which sit outside our hotel scans.
Eating and going out
The main event is the beach enramadas: whole fish fried or grilled zarandeado style, ceviche, garlic shrimp and cold beer with your feet in the sand. La Boquita, Miramar and La Audiencia have the best-known rows. Budget on the order of MX$250-400 for a big fish to share and MX$40-60 a beer.
Downtown eats cheaper and more locally: set lunches around MX$100-150, midday seafood counters, Colima staples like sopitos and tatemado, dry pozole. Vendors on the malecón sell tuba, the fermented palm drink served with peanuts, and bate. Smoked sailfish is the city's edible souvenir.
Nightlife is modest, and worth saying plainly: nothing here compares to Puerto Vallarta. Hotel bars, the occasional live-music spot out towards Santiago, and the downtown malecón for an evening stroll. Outside high season plenty of kitchens close between 9 and 10pm, so eat early or call ahead.
On Sundays and long weekends the enramadas fill with families up from Guadalajara; arrive before two if you want a shaded table. In this heat, be wary of ceviche that has sat out on display, and favour places with obvious turnover.

Our 2026 scans found 14 hotels with a real price: from US$53 a night and a typical from-price of around US$102. The small sample is itself descriptive — few hotels, a budget end downtown, a resort end on the peninsula, and not much genuine middle ground in between.
With supply that thin, dates decide everything. Over Christmas, Holy Week and the long July-August weekends the good hotels sell out and prices pull well above that median, so book two or three months ahead. September and October are the reverse, but ask for flexible terms given the hurricane risk.
Before you pay, confirm three things: whether the hotel is on the beach or across the boulevard from it, its exact kilometre on that boulevard, and whether the air conditioning is per room and working. Partial sea view here often means a slice of bay between two buildings. Check what any meal plan actually covers.
And the honest note on safety: Colima state posts high violence figures, tied to the port and organised crime, though incidents cluster far from the tourist corridor. Basic sense is enough — don't wander port or industrial areas after dark, avoid the highway at night, and use hotel or stand taxis.
