4.21666 reviewsThe rooms are serviceable but extremely small. The hotel was reasonably clean with minimal amenities. The staff unfortunately immediately made our stay uncomfortable. At the time of our check-in the staff told us our child, who is 12, was not allowed to stay in a room with us and aggressively suggested we pay for a 2nd room. The website lists a maximum of 8 per room. As one of the more expensive hotels in Nogales it is very disappointing, especially for a Marriott.
I had a terrible experience at this hotel. Their customer service was absolutely horrible. The website clearly states they accept service dogs, so I arrived with my service dog, only to be asked for documentation proving that my dog was indeed a service dog. This was not only unnecessary but also incredibly frustrating. To make matters worse, I overheard the staff speaking negatively about me in a way that was completely unprofessional and disrespectful. I ended up canceling my reservation on the spot. I will never be coming back, and I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
For me it is going to be 1 star because for it being $117 dollars! And the sink is clogged the air conditioner was not running correctly and the check in clerk was extremely rude when prices were changed at check in. Also the walls are thin I could hear the people next to me banging stuff and the upstairs people using the restroom so much for it being by Marriot hotel! I have pictures of sink being clogged
Planning your trip to Nogales
When to go
Nogales sits at roughly 1,150 metres, which spares it the furnace of the low Sonoran desert. Summers are still hot, with highs of 35°C and above from June to September, plus monsoon storms that flood a few streets in the afternoon and then move on. It is not Hermosillo heat, but nobody would call it cool either.
Winter catches out anyone expecting pure desert. From December to February nights drop close to freezing, cold wind funnels down the canyon, and daytime highs sit at a pleasant 18-22°C. March and April bring wind and dust. October and November are the rounded months, with clean skies and comfortable temperatures at any hour.
The calendar that actually matters is industrial. Monday to Thursday the hotels fill with audits, production launches and supplier visits, then empty out at the weekend. December stands apart: the southbound flow of families crossing home clogs car parks and stretches border waits for hours. If your dates are flexible, steer around those weeks.
Getting there and around
The usual approach from the north is straightforward: fly into Tucson, about 100 km away, and walk across at the DeConcini gate, which drops you straight into downtown. Plenty of people deliberately leave the car on the US side to avoid both the vehicle permits and the car lanes, which move far slower than the pedestrian ones.
From the south, highway 15 from Hermosillo is around 280 km and close to three hours, with tolls along the way. The bus terminal on the periférico takes frequent services from Hermosillo, Ciudad Obregón and Guadalajara. The local airport has essentially no scheduled commercial flights, so do not build an itinerary around it.
Around town, taxis and apps cover almost everything for MX$80-150 on short trips, a bit more out to the periférico or the industrial parks. Agree the fare before you get in if the driver is not using an app. City buses exist and are cheap, but the routes are not obvious to a short-stay visitor.
Two honest cautions. If you are driving south, sort the vehicle permit at the Banjercito module at kilometre 21 before continuing. And avoid rural highways after dark, which is simply what locals do: leave early, arrive in daylight, stick to the main roads and lit avenues.
Where to stay, zone by zone
Downtown, around the DeConcini gate, Avenida Obregón and Plaza Miguel Hidalgo, works if your plan is to walk across or handle paperwork. The crossing, the cathedral and the old customs house that now holds the art museum are all on foot. The trade-offs are traffic noise, tired buildings and awkward parking if you turn up with a car.
The Periférico Luis Donaldo Colosio corridor and the stretch towards the Mariposa crossing is where the business hotels live: their own car parks, early breakfast, fast exits to the industrial parks and the highway. Nothing here is walkable. Budget for a taxi to dinner and ten to fifteen minutes to anywhere you actually need to be.
The southern exit along highway 15 makes sense purely as a launch pad if you are leaving before dawn for Hermosillo or Guaymas. There is no street life and no sight worth the detour; it is a practical roadside dormitory, and on those terms it does the job without pretending otherwise.

Eating and going out
This is Sonora, cattle country, and the food follows. The taquerías and grill houses live on carne asada, flour tortillas and shredded machaca for breakfast, and that is where you eat best for least: reckon on something like MX$80-150 for a plate of tacos with the works, and MX$150-200 for a full set lunch at midday.
Seafood arrives from Guaymas and Bahía de Kino, so shrimp cocktails and fish tacos are a fair bet despite the distance from the coast. Along Avenida Obregón the offer is openly aimed at day-trip shoppers, mixed in with pharmacies and dental clinics. That is the street's real economy, not a dining district.
Nightlife is modest, and it is best taken that way. There are hotel bars, a few long-standing cantinas downtown, and not much else; on Sundays many kitchens close early. Take taxis after dark, stay on lit main avenues and skip the outlying colonias. Handled with that basic sense, the city gives you no trouble.
Booking well

That is a small sample skewed towards business hotels, and no amount of searching conjures backpacker rates, because this market does not produce them.
Book Monday to Thursday genuinely in advance. When a plant has an audit or a line launch, the rooms with secure parking go first. When you confirm, ask three concrete things: enclosed parking, breakfast opening time, and the late-arrival policy, especially if you are driving up from the south with an uncertain arrival hour.
If your plan involves an early crossing, work out the distance to the gate before you pick a hotel. Northbound queues build between six and nine in the morning and get worse on long weekends and holidays. Walking across at DeConcini is usually far quicker than sitting in a car lane at Mariposa.
Two last thoughts. Favour rates with flexible cancellation, because work trips move dates and nearly every trip here is a work trip. And if your stop is purely logistical, it is worth pricing the Arizona side too before you commit; it does not always win, but everyone on this border runs that comparison.
