The hotel is really good itself, rooms are clean, spacious and very comfortable. I’ve stayed here in several occasions and it has been good most of the time. However, I am currently staying during New Year’s Eve and it is an absolute disappointment. The hotel hosts a New Year’s celebration which is great, yet unfortunately the celebration creates a rather uncomfortable environment. The service quality decreases, the parking lot is filled to an unacceptable capacity since the cars barely fit and are easily exposed to crashes since it is almost impossible to park comfortably. Stayed here in early March '23 for two nights for a wedding. Solid 5 stars across the board. I worked in hospitality for 20 years and the front desk, gift shop, bar and restaurant service was absolutely fantastic. The location is great as well. Just a few minutes to the soccer stadium.
Planning your trip to Pachuca De Soto
When to go
Altitude runs the show here. At 2,400 metres Pachuca stays mild by day for most of the year, 20-25°C, and turns cold after dark; between December and February the overnight low sits close to zero. You will never want air conditioning in this city. You will want a second blanket and hot water that actually works.
The airosa part is earned between February and April, when the afternoon wind picks up, rattles awnings and carries dust across the valley. It won't ruin a trip, but it shapes anything planned outdoors. From June to September rain arrives mid-afternoon in short bursts, and the hills around town turn properly green.
October and November are the pick: clean air, gentle temperatures, long views over the sierra. They also bring the Feria Internacional San Francisco Pachuca in mid-October, which fills the city. Outside that peak, and the weekends when Pachuca play at the Estadio Hidalgo, occupancy is set by the state government, the university and local firms — Monday to Thursday.
Getting there and around
There is no commercial airport. The way in is the México-Pachuca highway, roughly 95 km from the capital, about ninety minutes by coach from the Central del Norte terminal, with departures every few minutes and tickets on the order of MX$150-200. As intercity connections in Mexico go, this is one of the easiest you'll use.
From Felipe Ángeles airport (AIFA) a direct bus has you in Pachuca in a little over an hour; from Mexico City's main airport allow two, traffic included. The bus terminal sits well south of the centre, so budget MX$60-80 for a taxi, or ride the Tuzobús, the dedicated-lane bus crossing town north to south for under MX$10.
The centre walks well, with one caveat: the city climbs hills, some streets are genuinely steep, and the thin air tends to announce itself on day one. Shared vans leave regularly for Real del Monte, El Chico national park and Huasca; a car buys you the viewpoints outside bus hours and the freedom to linger.
Where to stay, zone by zone
The Centro Histórico, around Plaza Independencia and the Reloj Monumental, is the part with character: pedestrian streets, the mining museum, the national photo archive in the old San Francisco convent. Hotels here are few and fairly plain, often in older buildings, but everything worth seeing is on foot.
Zona Plateada, along Boulevard Felipe Ángeles, is modern Pachuca: chain hotels, malls, restaurants. Much of what our scans priced sits here — predictable rooms, parking, breakfast included. It has no charm and doesn't pretend to; what it has is reliability, and the centre is ten or fifteen minutes away by taxi.
Around the bus terminal and the highway exits you'll find places built for late arrivals and early departures, or for work in the industrial south of the city. Fine for exactly that. Poor for seeing Pachuca on foot, so check the map before you book anything.
If the trip is really about scenery, consider sleeping in Mineral del Monte or Mineral del Chico, twenty and forty minutes out: stone houses and cabins with fireplaces, very cold nights, a slower pace altogether. Pachuca then becomes the place you pass through for supplies and buses.
Eating and going out
The paste rules. Cornish miners brought the baked pasty in the nineteenth century; the original filling is potato, beef and leek, and the sweet versions came later. Around MX$25-35, eaten at any hour, sold on half the corners downtown and all the way along the road climbing to Real del Monte.
Hidalgo cooking shows its hand at weekends: pit-cooked barbacoa on Saturday and Sunday mornings with a bowl of consomé alongside, ximbó wrapped in maguey leaves, and in spring escamoles and maguey worms at delicacy prices. Pulque still flows in neighbourhood pulquerías, served with no concessions whatsoever to visitors.
For a sit-down meal, the centre has cocinas económicas with a set lunch on the order of MX$100-140; Zona Plateada holds the tablecloth restaurants, where a main runs MX$180-250. Nightlife is modest and student-led, closing early midweek — don't come for it. The Las Palmitas macro mural, painted across a whole hillside barrio, is a daytime sight, best seen from below.

The count matters more than the rate — when the fair, a home match and a conference land in the same week, the city simply runs out of rooms and whatever's left gets expensive.
Because the demand is business demand, Monday to Thursday nights are the tight ones and weekends usually loosen up, the opposite of a resort town. If your dates can slide to a Friday or Saturday, compare both; you'll probably pay less and you'll be in town for the weekend barbacoa.
Before you confirm, check three things: heating, or at least enough blankets, since many hotels offer nothing more; hot water with real pressure; and parking if you're driving, because the old streets are narrow and steep. Ask how far the hotel really is from the centre, and book a rate you can cancel.
