On July 12, 2025 . We checked in a party of 4. So far things we going well until construction started . I booked for a vacation to be relaxed enjoy peace and quiet. I would definitely not recommend this hotel if you’re trying to have an enjoyable vacation in puerto Escondido. When we arrived to the hotel its looked nice from the entrance but don’t be fooled, the room are extremely run down. It looks like the rooms haven’t been updated in years. We booked two room and one of them didn’t even have their a/c functioning. We asked for a room change but they said they would have the a/c fixed in 1 hour but no it’s took them about 5 hour to fix. Planning your trip to Puerto Escondido
When to go
The dry season runs November to April: dependable sun, low thirties Celsius, warm nights. Prices peak over the last week of December, the first week of January and Holy Week, when Mexican travellers arrive in force and the better rooms disappear months ahead.
June to October is the wet half — showers mostly late in the day, humidity from breakfast onwards, green hills and near-empty sand. It is also the cheapest stretch of the year, and the season for bioluminescence in Laguna de Manialtepec, best on moonless nights.
Surfers keep a different calendar: the south swell lands from May to September, which is when Zicatela earns its reputation. Heat never really relents — count on 30°C and thick humidity in any month — so air conditioning, a proper fan or a pool is a selection criterion rather than a bonus.
Getting there and around
PXM airport sits roughly four kilometres from the centre, over on the Bacocho side, with daily flights from Mexico City and Oaxaca City. A taxi to Zicatela or the Adoquín costs in the order of MX$150-250 depending on the beach, a little more to La Punta.
Overland, the Barranca Larga–Ventanilla motorway cut the drive from Oaxaca City to about three and a half to four hours, against six or more on the old mountain road. Buses and shared vans run it; there are fewer curves now, not none.
In town, short taxi hops run around MX$50-100 and you agree the fare before getting in. Shared pickups work the coast road towards La Punta and the airport for pocket change. Walking between zones sounds sensible and seldom is: highway shoulder, full sun, patchy pavement.
Where to stay, zone by zone
Zicatela is the long strip facing the open Pacific: hotels and hostels at every budget, bars, restaurants and the noise that comes with them. You sleep near the water and wake to the wave. During swell season the whole street runs on surf time.
La Punta, at the southern end, is the young, cheap end of town: dirt streets, hostels, simple rooms, surf lessons and food eaten off the kerb. You pay less and slow down, in exchange for fewer services and a colectivo or moto-taxi for everything else.
Carrizalillo is the small cove with the best swimming water and the view you have already seen in photos; the Rinconada above it holds many of the pool-and-terrace hotels. You pay for that, and the staircase down to the beach announces itself on the way back up.
The Centro, around the Adoquín and Bahía Principal, is the useful zone: market, banks, boats to Puerto Angelito and Manzanillo, hotels short on charm but well placed. Bacocho and Sector Reforma are quiet and residential near the airport; carless, you will live in taxis.
Eating and going out
Fish and shellfish do most of the work: fillets, ceviche, tostadas, whole fish grilled a la talla. At market and downtown comedores a set lunch runs about MX$90-130; a fish plate on the seafront climbs to MX$220-350, beer MX$45-70. The late fruit-and-coffee breakfast is a local institution.
For nights out, Zicatela is the axis of bars and music running late; La Punta ends the day on the sand, barefoot, around food stalls; the Adoquín is more touristy and earlier. Two streets back from the front line, the same dishes cost noticeably less.
The region has seen violent incidents that do not target visitors, but ordinary caution applies: take a taxi at night rather than dark stretches of highway, carry little cash, skip empty beaches after dusk. In practice, though, the Pacific undertow is the real hazard here.

It is a small formal inventory sitting alongside plenty of guesthouses and apartments that never show up in scans, which is why peak dates sell out earlier than people expect.
Book two or three months out for the last week of December, the first of January and Holy Week. In September and October you can arrive on a few days' notice and still have room to negotiate a weekly rate.
Before you confirm, check three things: whether the air conditioning is real or just a fan, whether the windows have insect screens, and the actual distance to the beach you care about — ten minutes here can mean ten minutes of highway. In Zicatela or the Adoquín, ask about night noise too.
