Location landscape is incredible, there are two beach areas with all amenities to have fun. I can say it’s in the top of the gastronomy all inclusive experiences in Huatulco, honestly the food is fresh and high quality. Wifi is not the greatest but it wasn’t a problem for me, also shower at the room is not the best but it works. The food and recreation area is an amazing place although a way long If you are out of shape or have some illness to walk. I just will add some music entertainm…
Food is good, not exceptional, but quality is fair enough. There is only one buffet restaurant that changes some of the dishes each day. It has two small beaches, a bit rocky but excellent for snorkeling. The biggest downside is how far the rooms are from restaurant, spa, pools and beach. Be prepared to walk a lot. Not recommended if you have a mobility restriction. Rooms are good, AC is adequate and atmosphere is quiet. Service provided by the staff is great. I did not try the drinks. In general is a good option priced below the other big all inclusive in Huatulco.
We stayed for 5 nights at this hotel. The room was clean and spacious the ac worked great the staff were absolutely great from the reception Ariel was such a helpful pleasant person to waiters Enrique was extremely attentive and pleasant , don Pedro at the bar did serve some great drinks I must say. Overall the staff were absolutely great. The location is great the beach was beautiful and clean not crowded there also some amazing views , Definitely we will be coming back. A big thank you to the staff.
Planning your trip to Santa Maria Huatulco
When to go
The dry season runs November to April: near-guaranteed sun, 30-32°C, and a calm sea most mornings. It is also the priciest stretch, with sharp peaks at Christmas, New Year and Holy Week. Deep in winter the Isthmus winds sometimes arrive: breezy days that chop up the water, cool the shade and occasionally cancel the boat trips.
May and June are the run-up to the rains: humid heat, warm water, and rates already down before the sky really opens. July and August bring afternoon downpours, but Mexican school holidays fill the hotels — the one stretch of the year when you pay high-season money under heavy cloud.
September to mid-November is the price floor and also the heart of cyclone season on this coast. It rarely wrecks a whole trip, but you should know: book flexible cancellation and don't build a rigid boat-based itinerary. In exchange you get the jungle at its greenest and bays that are practically empty.
One consolation compared with the Caribbean: there is no sargassum here. What there is instead is a punishing sun year-round and open bays — Chahué, La Bocana — with heavy shore break and rip currents. The calm water is in the enclosed bays: La Entrega, Maguey, Santa Cruz itself. If nobody is swimming, there is usually a reason.
Getting there and around
The airport sits on Highway 200, 20-30 minutes from the bays, and it is small: few daily frequencies, almost all from Mexico City, plus seasonal winter routes from Canada and the United States. Buy your transfer at the terminal desk, where fares are fixed per person in a shared van or per vehicle in a private taxi.
Overland, buses from Oaxaca City still take 6-7 hours over the sierra; the new coastal highway mainly shortened the run to Puerto Escondido, from which you reach Huatulco in about two hours along Highway 200. From Mexico City it is roughly 14 overnight hours. If mountain roads turn your stomach, medicate before the climb.
Once here, everything is close: taxis are plentiful and cheap, in the order of MX$60-120 between La Crucecita, Santa Cruz, Chahué and Tangolunda, with shared colectivos for a few pesos on fixed routes. A rental car only earns its keep if you plan to climb to the coffee farms of Pluma Hidalgo, drop down to the Copalita river, or run west to Mazunte and Puerto Escondido.
The roadless bays are reached by boat from the Santa Cruz pier, at cooperative rates, shared or private. Maguey, La Entrega and Conejos can also be driven to; Cacaluta and San Agustín sit at the end of dirt tracks that punish a small car, especially in the rainy months.
Where to stay, zone by zone
Tangolunda holds the big complexes, many all-inclusive, with the golf course and a continuous beach of moderate surf. This is where the top of our range lives and where the roughly US$93 typical rate meets its ceiling. Always check whether the price is per room or per person and what the plan actually covers: that detail reshapes the whole budget.
La Crucecita has no beach — it is the town: plaza, church, market — and that is exactly why it keeps the best prices, including the rooms from US$40 we logged. You sleep among bakeries and taquerías, pay a short taxi fare to whichever bay you fancy, and eat for half. For budgets or long stays, it is the obvious base.
Santa Cruz is the middle ground with a view: pier, marina, a walkable town beach and a row of fish restaurants; you board a boat without transferring anywhere. Chahué sits in between, more residential, with small hotels and condos; its beach is handsome and its shore break treacherous — more for looking at than swimming carelessly.
By profile: a family or couple who don't want to think, Tangolunda; budget, remote work or a long month, La Crucecita; first visit without a car, Santa Cruz; quiet with your own kitchen, Chahué. One local caveat: 'beachfront' here often means hillside, stairs and a view — ask how many metres and how steep the walk to the sand is.
Eating and going out
Oaxaca's coast eats Oaxacan: tlayudas, memelas, mole from the sierra, and a market breakfast in La Crucecita for something like MX$60-120 at 2025 prices. Town fondas serve a set lunch for MX$100-150, half what an equivalent plate costs in Tangolunda — and ten taxi minutes from any bay.
Seafood belongs to the palapas of Santa Cruz, La Entrega and Maguey: whole fish grilled a la talla for around MX$250-450, ceviches, shrimp. Chair and shade are paid for with a minimum order, and on the beaches reached only by boat everything costs more, because the ice and the water arrive by boat too.
Nights are short and unpretentious: bars and terraces around La Crucecita's plaza, a handful more in Santa Cruz and Chahué, and the resorts handling their own behind closed doors. After one in the morning almost everything shuts. Compensate with what is here: high-altitude coffee from Pluma Hidalgo, mezcal poured without ceremony, and an early boat out.

Huatulco is a small market: 37 hotels with a real price in our 2026 scans, from US$40 a night with a typical rate in the order of US$93. Thin inventory means Christmas, New Year, Holy Week and the Mexican summer genuinely sell out. And since the airport has few frequencies, lock the flight first and the room second.
Before you pay, check three things: real air conditioning in the room rather than just a fan; whether there is a pool, since many La Crucecita hotels have none; and, in the all-inclusives, exactly what the plan covers and at what hours. In small hotels, ask about the floor and the street too — the town wakes early and it is audible.
