4.466 reviewsThe management at this location are so great! We rented the entire hotel for a wedding. They were extremely flexible, accommodating, and honest and transparent. All of our guests were very happy with their stay. It would be helpful if the rooms were bilingual since the hot water operation was a little tricky to figure out! Most of our guests did not speak Spanish so that made it challenging to figure out the hot water heaters. Rooms were very spacious and comfortable. Well decorated and very clean. The hotel is located about a 5-10 minute walk to the center of Tequila.
Worst hotel in Tequila! Beds are like sleeping on the floor! The hotel is very noisy and the staff is non educated! I had to leave in the early morning but couldn't do so because there so called tour van was blocking me in. When I asked the receptionist to move it he didn't have the keys and had no clue what to do! I asked for the manager and of course like all these poorly run places in Mexico they didn't want to bother him! The manager is so called on vacation and cant be bothered!! Gave the service 1 Star because the dont have a -5 star rating!!
What a unique property and find! It's another diamond-in-the-rough; seemingly out of place for what it is. The property as it sits is only 8months old... so everything inside is perfect and very well maintained. We had a 2 bed-room apartment-style room, with full kitchen and dining room. VERY helpful for our family, 4-person party. This was a fantastic stay, albeit entirely too short. The attention to detail, the cleanliness, the service from staff are all without equal. I think my favorite part was how convenient it was to walk to get everything from food, to a haircut, to a tequila distiller…
Planning your trip to Tequila
When to go
The dry months run November to May. November through February is the sweet spot: days around 25-28°C, nights cool enough for a jacket, and clean light across the agave fields. From March to May the heat builds and the valley turns dusty and brown — perfectly workable, but not the landscape you saw in photographs.
Rain arrives June to October, usually as an afternoon storm that blows through in an hour or two. That is when the fields are genuinely green and the volcano stands sharp above town. Come midweek in those months and you will have the tours, the terraces and the pick of the rooms largely to yourself.
The local peak is the Feria Nacional del Tequila, spanning late November and early December, when the town fills and the handful of hotels sell out completely. Holy Week and long weekends do the same on a smaller scale. Midweek, this is a different place: quiet, inexpensive and free of queues at the distillery gates.
Getting there and around
Tequila lies 60-70 km northwest of Guadalajara on Highway 15. Driving takes about an hour and a quarter using the toll road. Buses leave frequently from Guadalajara's Antigua Central Camionera, take a slow ninety minutes with stops, and cost on the order of MX$150-200 at 2025 prices.
The weekend tourist train from Guadalajara is an outing in itself — tastings on board, back the same evening — which is precisely why it does not suit an overnight stay, since the ticket usually locks in the return leg. If you are sleeping here, the bus or your own car leaves you far freer.
Guadalajara's airport sits on the far side of the city: allow close to two hours door to door, and expect a taxi well over MX$1,000. A bus transfer or a rental car makes better sense. In town nothing needs wheels; short taxi rides run roughly MX$50-80, and Amatitán is fifteen minutes up the road.
The obvious warning people still ignore: tastings add up quickly. Decide who is not drinking before you set out, or leave the car at the hotel and use taxis. Highway 15 carries heavy truck traffic, and it is not a road to learn in the dark after a day of sampling.
Where to stay, zone by zone
The centre — the main plaza, the Santiago Apóstol church, Calle José Cuervo — is where staying makes sense: you walk to the distilleries, the tequila museum and the terraces. The trade-off is noise. On Friday and Saturday there are mariachis, cantarito drinkers and music trucks circling the square until late.
Three or four blocks back, on streets such as Sixto Gorjón and the lanes crossing it, small hotels occupy old courtyard houses that cost less and sleep better. Ask for an interior room. In a town of narrow streets and low façades, facing the patio rather than the pavement changes the whole night.
Towards the edge of town and the highway turn-off you find plainer places with their own parking, built for people arriving by car. It is a fifteen-minute walk to the plaza or a MX$50-60 taxi. This is where the floor of the market sits, near the US$67 minimum we logged in 2026.
Out among the agave fields toward Amatitán and El Arenal, a few haciendas have been converted into hotels: pool, silence, landscape. They are the reason our typical scanned rate, around US$171, sits so far above the floor. Without a car you are tied to taxis for every meal and every tour.
Eating and going out
The food is unfussy Jalisco cooking: beef birria at midday, pozole, tacos, and tortas ahogadas if the Guadalajara craving hits. The municipal market and the small fondas on side streets serve a set lunch for MX$120-180; plaza terraces charge closer to double, and a good part of that is the view.
The visitor's drink here is not a shot but the cantarito — citrus juice and tequila in a clay pot, sold on every corner. It goes down easily and it deceives. At 1,200 metres with afternoon sun on you, two cantaritos count for more than they look. Eat before you start the round.
Nightlife is short and concentrated: bars around the plaza and along Sixto Gorjón, live music Friday and Saturday, very little from Sunday to Thursday. Come midweek expecting atmosphere and you will be disappointed; come expecting a town that goes quiet by ten, and that is exactly what you get.

If your budget sits near the floor, target midweek nights and the plainer places out by the highway entrance.
Before paying, confirm three things: parking, because the centre has narrow streets and few spaces; whether breakfast is included; and which way the room faces. Ask too whether the hotel books distillery visits — several do, and in high season that saves you standing in line at the gate.
