About staying in Bucerias
Bucerías is the beach town Puerto Vallarta stopped being: cobblestones, a plaza and kilometres of flat sand twenty-five minutes from the airport. Highway 200 cuts it in two. On the sea side you get the old centre, Avenida México, the church of Nuestra Señora de la Paz and the galleries along Lázaro Cárdenas; on the inland side, the working town most visitors never see. Which part of Bucerías should I stay in?
The centre, on the sea side of Highway 200. Between Avenida México, the plaza and Lázaro Cárdenas you walk to the beach, the restaurants and the galleries. Further north it is mostly beachfront condo blocks: very quiet, but a taxi or a long walk to dinner. East of the highway is cheaper and more local, with no beach on foot.
When are rooms cheapest here?
May to October, with July to September at the bottom: humid heat, afternoon downpours and hurricane season. High season runs mid-November to April, peaking at Christmas, New Year and Holy Week. Our 2026 scans logged rooms from US$77 and a typical rate of the order of US$202; in winter the range stretches upward and the cheap end vanishes first.
How do I get in from the airport, and around?
Puerto Vallarta airport is about 20 km away: an official taxi runs of the order of MX$600-800, or use a ride app after walking over the pedestrian bridge, since they cannot pick up inside the terminal. Once here, local buses along the highway cost roughly MX$20-40 and reach Vallarta, La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Punta de Mita and Sayulita. In town, you walk.
Is the beach at Bucerías good for swimming?
Yes, and it is one of the most walkable stretches in the bay — flat sand running straight north for kilometres. But the shore break hits hard and rip currents form, especially with summer swell, and lifeguards are scarce. With children, get in where other people are and ask at your hotel before assuming it is calm.
