4.42389 reviewsI have stayed at this hotel at least 4 times over the years. Unfortunately, it seems to decline each time. The room comes with a free buffet style breakfast. The good is relatively good and worth eating. This visit the weather was exceptionally hot, causing the same for the rooms, despite the air-conditioning. The rooms require a card key or something similar it be inserted to keep the air on. I suggest asking for to keys or putting something else in the card holder. The price was around 65 a night for a room with two beds. Due to the location, I will likely stay here again.
First time coming to this location in Veracruz Mexico and let me tell you the staff is just super amazing and outgoing ready to help.
Very nice attention from staff. Great restaurants... 1 is rooftop and 1 regular... plus a pastry shop. Also a few good restaurants within walking distance... not a new hotel, but I like it very much... I have stayed here at least 5 times, and brought my wife to Poza Rica twice as well. Tuxpan is 45 min away ... fun playa and good seafood... shrimp cocktails are fantastic!

When to go
The comfortable stretch runs November to March: days of 24 to 30°C, more bearable humidity and occasional rain. From May to September the heat is serious, around 35°C with heavy humidity, and June to October brings hard rain, cyclone risk and flooded stretches of low-lying road. Air conditioning is not optional here.
Between November and February the nortes blow in: Gulf wind, drizzle that will not quit, and grey days that can drop the temperature ten degrees in a few hours. They will not ruin a trip, but check the forecast before El Tajín — the site is open, shade is scarce and the grass turns to mud.
Hotel demand follows work rather than holidays. Midweek the city fills with industry travellers and rates hold; weekends generally ease off. The exceptions are March, when the Cumbre Tajín festival runs in Papantla, and the Holy Week and summer bridges, when the nearby coast pushes overflow inland.
Getting there and around
Almost everyone arrives by bus. Mexico City is five to six hours on Highway 130 via Tulancingo, with frequent first-class departures, and there are direct services from Xalapa, Veracruz, Tuxpan and Pachuca. The terminal sits near the centre, and the boulevard hotels are a short taxi ride away.
El Tajín national airport lies about 15 kilometres out in Tihuatlán, but scheduled commercial service has been intermittent in recent years, so confirm flights before you build a plan around them. Driving, Highway 180 runs north to Tuxpan and south to Papantla, Tecolutla and Nautla — two lanes, plenty of heavy trucks.
In town, taxis are the system. Short rides tend to run 40 to 60 pesos, and it is normal to agree the fare before you get in, since meters are rare. Shared vans and buses to Papantla and Tuxpan leave constantly. Avoid driving rural roads after dark in this region; that is the local advice and it is worth taking.
Where to stay, zone by zone
The centre holds the cheapest hotels and a few family-run places, surrounded by shopping streets, banks, pharmacies and cheap kitchens, with the bus terminal close by. It walks well in daylight and everything is at hand. The trade-off is noise: traffic from early, street life until late. Ask for an interior room and test the air conditioning.
Boulevard Adolfo Ruiz Cortines, the artery that cuts across the city, is where the newer business hotels sit: on-site parking, decent wifi, sometimes breakfast included. Charm is thin on the ground, but the beds are reliable and you are out on the highway in minutes. This is where most work travellers end up.
If your trip is leisure, be honest about it. Papantla, 45 minutes away, is smaller, prettier and next door to El Tajín. Tuxpan and the Costa Esmeralda put you on the sand. Poza Rica earns its keep through work, bus connections or price — our 2026 scans found rooms from US$51 a night.
Eating and going out
You eat well and cheaply. Huasteca cooking from northern Veracruz dominates: bocoles, thick corn cakes filled with beans or cheese, enchiladas made with dried chilli, the region's oversized tamales, and zacahuil at festival time. A full breakfast in a simple dining room runs roughly 80 to 120 pesos, and a set lunch lands in the same range.
The coast is close, so seafood places serve fresh Gulf fish — red snapper, shrimp, midday cocktails — and they fill with families on Sundays, when arriving early pays. In the centre you will also find bakeries, plain cafés and afternoon street snack stands. Papantla vanilla is the obvious thing to carry home.
Nightlife is modest and revolves around cantinas and bars in the centre and along the boulevard, with a local and industry crowd. This is not a city for wandering at two in the morning: eat early, take a taxi back to the hotel, and save the long nights for somewhere else. In the rainy season, things wrap up earlier still.

In the centre, request a room away from the avenue. Photos here tend to flatter, so weight recent reviews more heavily than the gallery.
Avoid non-refundable rates if your trip hangs on a site visit, a permit or a meeting, because work schedules shift without warning. For Cumbre Tajín in March, book months out or accept sleeping further away. And always price-check Papantla and Tuxpan first: sometimes the saving does not justify staying here.
