About staying in Rincon De Guayabitos
Rincón de Guayabitos is a Mexican family beach town, not a resort strip. Jaltemba Bay is so sheltered and so shallow that children can wade out a long way, and Isla del Coral sits offshore, fifteen minutes away by open boat. The town amounts to two avenues, a row of seafood palapas and a great many bungalows with kitchenettes. Our 2026 scans found only six hotels here with a real price: from US$157 a night, typically around US$175 — a small sample weighted toward the beachfront, since much of the local lodging is still booked by phone. Over Holy Week and in August, the place genuinely fills.

Which area should I stay in?
If the calm water is why you came, stay on the Guayabitos beachfront or on the short streets running down from Avenida del Sol Nuevo: everything on foot, a pool, sand a block away. La Peñita de Jaltemba, 3 km north, is a working town with a market, ATMs and lower prices, but a more open, wavier beach. Los Ayala, to the south, is smaller and quieter with few hotels.
When is it cheapest and most expensive?
The peaks are Holy Week, the last week of December and July-August, when domestic tourism fills the bay and availability drives price. November to April is a calmer high season, with long-stay winter visitors. May-June and September-October are the cheapest and emptiest months: humid heat, afternoon downpours and genuine hurricane risk on this coast.
How do I get there and get around without a car?
Fly into Puerto Vallarta (PVR) and cover about 90 km on Federal Highway 200 — roughly 75 to 90 minutes. A private transfer runs somewhere around MX$1,800-2,500; cheaper is a taxi to Vallarta's bus terminal and a coastal bus toward La Peñita, of the order of MX$150-250. Inside the bay, shared vans link La Peñita, Guayabitos and Los Ayala for MX$15-30.
Is it actually a good beach for small children?
Yes — that reputation is earned. The bay is protected, almost waveless, with a long gentle entry and warm water. In high season you share it with banana boats, jet skis and pangas, so 'calm' is relative by midday. Boats to Isla del Coral leave from the same sand; agree the price and the return time before you get in.
