4.5235 reviewsI reserved this hotel because I visited it one year ago. It was new, had nice service, and was clean. Last weekend, the hotel was in bad condition. It practically has zero maintenance. The bathroom was not well clean; the bath area had soap residues on the walls. The toilet seat lid and shower curtain were broken. The towels seem to be old. The only treadmill was broken. Nevertheless, the hotel guard was always seated and looking at his cell phone; the rest of the personnel were warm and friendly.
In general it is a good hotel, however, when you travel for work, the internet becomes a very important element to consider, since in this case it is very poor, the connection is very slow and at times it goes away. But it has other positive things, such as its location at the entrance to Zamora, very accessible, with a large and safe parking lot, the breakfast is a bit simple but delicious and with the basics (fruit, coffee, milk, juice, cereal, sweet bread and the stew of the day, I think it varies). The rooms are clean and billing is fast! Another weak point is the noise, you can hear noise…
Very good hotel, excellent staff service. The only two things I have to point out are that the breakfast buffet needs a little more variety, and the pool was very chlorinated, which caused skin allergies, though it depends on the individual. But overall, it's an excellent hotel.
Planning your trip to Zamora
When to go
The most comfortable stretch runs November to February: dry skies, days of 24-27°C and nights dropping to 6-8°C. Pack a jacket — plenty of budget hotels have no heating and the valley genuinely chills before dawn. It is also when valley strawberries hit their peak on market stalls and in the ice-cream shops.
March to May is the hot, dusty run: highs near 33-35°C at midday, dry air and long afternoons. The 1,560-metre altitude helps once the sun drops, but if you travel then, air conditioning stops being a nicety and becomes a reason to pick one hotel over another.
From June to September it rains most afternoons. The valley turns green and temperatures ease, but dirt roads turn to mud, and driving a secondary highway at night in a storm is exactly what you want to avoid around here.
Occupancy spikes are specific rather than seasonal: pilgrimages to the Santuario Guadalupano around 12 December, Holy Week, and the farming fairs. On those dates the handful of central hotels fills fast and any room to negotiate disappears.
Getting there and around
Guadalajara (GDL) is the practical airport: two and a half to three hours on the 15D, tolls included. Morelia (MLM) sits about two hours away and sometimes wins on domestic fares. Uruapan (UPN) is small and only makes sense if you're already flying there. Car rental desks are at the airports, not in Zamora.
The bus terminal takes frequent services from Guadalajara and Morelia — two and a half to three hours, roughly MX$300-450 in luxury class, less on ordinary buses — plus departures to Uruapan, La Piedad and Sahuayo. Arriving after dark, take a taxi from the terminal desk rather than walking out with luggage.
You can cross the Centro on foot in twenty minutes. Sitio taxis charge in the order of MX$50-80 within the city and a little more out to Jacona; urban combis run around MX$10-12. App coverage is unreliable, so save a taxi number or have reception call one for you.
A car opens up the surroundings: Lago de Camécuaro, with its ahuehuete trees and cold springs, is some 25 km out towards Tangancícuaro, and the Cañada de los Once Pueblos lines the road to Carapan. Go in daylight, use main roads, and time the return before dusk.
Where to stay, zone by zone
The Centro, between the Plaza de Armas and the Santuario Guadalupano, is the only genuinely walkable zone: offices, arcades, the market and taquerías within a few blocks. Hotels are simple, with no boutique pretensions. Ask for an interior room — the old core is loud from early, with deliveries and steady traffic.
The Calzada Zamora–Jacona, the artery joining the two towns, is where car-oriented lodging sits: on-site parking, quick access to shopping plazas. It is convenient and unremarkable, in the best sense. Jacona itself is quieter and residential, but you'll be taxi-dependent in the evening.
Along the bypass and the exits towards Guadalajara and Morelia you'll find roadside hotels, useful if you're driving and leaving early, or simply sleeping between two meetings. Don't expect anything within walking distance: you eat at the hotel or drive back into town.

Eating and going out
Zamora eats well and without ceremony. Carnitas in the morning, birria, seasonal corundas and uchepos, and the municipal market for a cheap breakfast among crates of valley produce. The arcades around the plaza hold long-running fondas and ice-cream counters; there's no need to hunt for anything more polished.
Two things are local and worth ordering. Chongos zamoranos, the curdled-milk dessert in cinnamon syrup that carries the city's name, and valley strawberries at their best between winter and spring. Strawberries with cream is the standard local finish to a meal, at a fraction of coastal prices.
Nightlife is modest: cantinas, a few bars along the calzada, restaurants that shut early. Eat at a sensible hour, come back by taxi, and skip empty streets in the small hours. That's common sense in any mid-sized city, and in Michoacán it's worth applying without exceptions.
